Has anyone attended a convention from these guys? I'm totally impatient and am curious about how much it typically costs. Oddly, they aren't even listing the price on their website just yet, so I though I'd see if anyone has previously gone and remembers about what it ran. http://www.greathomeschoolconventions.com/ If I go, I'll be attending the Cincinnati one. Would love to hear Governor Huckabee speak, also. bonus!
They're reputation is to make as much profit as possible off of homeschoolers. And last year, they came into a lot of controversy by banning Ken Ham. (I do NOT want to get into a discussion as to whether they were justified; all I'm saying is that it was a very big controversy!) Personally, I wouldn't attend a conference given by them.
I saw the Ken Ham controversy, briefly, while I was searching for conference prices on Bing (after coming up dry on their website). I need to go back and read that more closely as I didn't get the full story (not trying to engage anyone in a discussion, just saying I obviously need to do some more homework). Thanks for the info, Jackie!
I think their prices have always been reasonable (much cheaper than our state convention). I want to say I've paid $25-$35 in the past for all three days. I'm not sure if I'm going this year, but if I do, I'll be in Cincy as well! I've gone for the past 4 years and really enjoyed it. Andrew Pudewa and Mark Hamby are two of my favorite speakers, and they are BOTH going to be there. :/ Decisions, decisions! As for what happened last year, I honestly feel like there is no way to find out the absolute truth.
Hey want to come to a smaller convention without contraversy. We are putting one on here next May. www.northernontariohsconvention.com we have our prices a bit high I think so we will be lowering our entrance fee likely after our next committee meeting in Jan. But do check it out. And spread the word if you know anyone in Michigan who may be interested in a educational field trip.
I'm curious as to why there is controversy surrounding a homeschool conference. I've never been to one, but I'm hoping to go to the one in Winnipeg, MB next year.
Thanks, northernmomma! I wish I could come up that far; I'd love to visit Canada anyway. The reason I'm willing to take the drive to Ohio is because my cousin actually lives near Cincy and we'll go together, making a fun girls weekend out of it as well. So, it's a two-purpose trip! Stacey -- do a quick search online for "Ken Ham and Great Homeschool Conventions". You'll hit a ton of articles from both sides on the issue last year.
