Is anyone that normally celebrates the holiday considering skipping out on trick or treat this year due to the supposed pending outbreak? I have to admit I have considered it....We told ds that if we went he has to keep his mask and gloves (part of his costume) on at all times....I think we're going to sneak and throw away the candy he gets and replace it with stuff we buy. Think about it...cool night air, snotty noses, 100's of kids digging their hands into people's stash...no thank you.
We don't celebrate Halloween anyway...but I see your point. I have one kid with a snotty nose, one with a sore throat and 2 with a bit of a cough and I am beginning to come down with a sore throat myself. UGH. I know I wouldn't want to expose anyone to that. I do think it's a good idea to have masks and gloves as part of a costume! Very creative and necessary!
You know I never thought about it. For the most part around here the parents at the door hand out the candy to the kids but there are a couple of homes that let the kids dig in the bucket themselves. Will I skip trick or treating? Not a chance! I LOVE Halloween - it's all about playing dress up and soliciting your neighbors for free candy!! Woo Hoo! I just may use even more hand sanitizer than normal.
I hadn't even thought about it. My kids are 4 and 1, so it's not a big deal for us. (Actually, the baby turns 1 on the 29th, so it's more of a bday thing for us.) We'll be doing a preschool party through the city, a party at dh's work, and we'll ToT at about 10 houses of people we know. We won't be out late because it's church night. Gotta get up early the next morning, so they'll be in bed on time as usual.
I wanted to do a Halloween party but I think that isn't going to happen after all. Sam will be going to a sleepover where they trick or treat, eat crap food, play pranks and stay up until unGodly hours - man I wish I was 13! Dh and I will be home with Gracie and will take her TorT and then play games with her and stay up late watching movies. Lots of people go to church carnivals but I just can't! I gotta stand up for free candy and costumes and fun! I loved it growing up and I think I need to have more babies so I can go trick or treating until I am old and crusty. lol!
LOL Deena!! I wish girl! Nope not gonna happen. Dh does not want another. He turned 40 this year and is now focusing on raising our girls, getting them out of our house, getting them married and having GRANDCHILDREN! LOL!! Oh to hold a baby again! If I could go back in time I would have another right after Sam and another right after Grace. Anyone got a time machine?????
We don't usually "Halloween" -- dh and I usually go out to dinner instead. However, our church is doing a Fall Festival, like last year, which was a really fun evening! DH and I will be popping the popcorn and bagging it up. There will be hotdogs w/ or w/o chili, KoolAde, marshmallows (one of the guys has a "portable" firepit), and there will be tons of candy. In and on the candy bags there will be tracts and little messages, scripture verses, whatever, so there's a point to giving out so much candy. This year we'll have 6 inflatable fun jumps! And a real horse to ride (led around by the owner, nobody will be free-riding). A throw-a-football game, and a throw-a-basketball game, and face-painting. Last year there were other games, but I'm not sure what exactly will be there besides these I've named. And of course, really loud contemporary Christian (rock-type) music playing the whole time. We're expecting a huge crowd, because of last year's success. It's all free admission, but last year a bunch of people came by on the street but didn't come in because they couldn't understand FREE ADMISSION. They figured we were using it as a fund-raiser or something. Anyway, I'm not sure who has the most fun -- the kids or the grownups! BUT since the high school football game is on Friday night, the trick-or-treating and therefore the Fall Festival will be on Thursday night the 29th.... eh. It's to be from 530-730, but with school the next day.... eh. That's the only bad part. Don't know why they didn't just let it be on the real date of Halloween......
We will be trick or treating. I don't expect it to be a late night because there are not as many people here as in the past. I am almost tempted to go to another nieghborhood but usually we get quite a bit of non military families come thru. This year hubby will take them because he was gone last year and I will stay behind handing out the good stuff. I dont buy the cheap icky stuff. None of the nasty hard pink hard gum or those one candies that come in the black wrappers and orange wrappers. I personally would love to go to Salem (sp) for Halloween but hubby isn't on board.
We'll be trick or treating - we LOVE Halloween. We are supposed to have a Halloween Party on the 30th but honestly we aren't getting many people telling us they can show up and so I'm not sure about it. Or farm is open up on the 31st for trick or treating from 2-4 and hay rides and such..... Then we will be taking off and heading to a friends for dinner and then the kids can go trick or treating around the neighborhood. Alexis is the "Cheerless Chearleader" - LOL
I can't really see how trick or treating would be any more risky then a trip to the grocery store. The kids are generally outside with a fair bit of space seperating them. The candy is almost always wrapped in plastic. Honestly, seems like a much less risky proposal then many other normal activities.
We do trunk or treat at our church. I think this is our 4th year. We have everyone circle the cars and open the trunk or back of the vans and everyone decorates their vehicles in fall or halloween stuff. The adults try to out do each other in decorations and costumes. We all hand out candy from the back of our cars. The people park in our lower parking lot and there is no traffic where the kiddos walk to get candy. We play halloween sounds in the background and one family brings a horse trailer that is made into a haunted room type thing. It is all very traditional halloween stuff. One our church carport there is a lady handing out bags with candy and info about our church for anyone who is interested. We only run for about two hours and we always have a huge crowd. After that the youth will be heading to the next town over from us for a haunted movie theater. Then they are having an all night lock in at the church. If they stay for it they have to be up and ready for Sunday School on time. I am sure I will be helping with some of it but I don't do haunted houses or any of that stuff. I don't like to be scared!

We do not do Halloween so there will be no going out Trick or Treating going on here. Instead we buy candy for our boys.
If we lived nearby we'd come for the hay ride for sure! Grace is going to be a cat. She is using the costume Samantha used years ago. Samantha is going to a Halloween/Birthday trick or treat/slumber party that night but she still has no idea what she wants to dress up as.
We don't trick or treat in our area - kind of rural. All of the local churches do a Fall Festival sort of thing. I have already informed my child that if someone seems ill to stay as far away from them as possible.
