This is my fifth year teaching writing at my co-op and I've stayed with the same group of kids the whole way. As my son moves up a grade, I move up with him so these kids have only had me for a writing teacher. Well, a few of them have gone on to public school and I'm getting back reports. One, who I only had a couple years, says she is getting terrific grades on her papers and the teacher is using her work as an example for the class. Today, one of my favorite and most challenging students stopped by the co-op at the end of the day. He now attends public school and is in the 9th grade. This kid started out with IEW but quit the class as he, the teacher, and the curriculum were not a match. I think I picked him up in 5th grade and had him for 4 years before he went on to the high school. Well, he was all smiles today. He said English class is a breeze! He is getting hundreds on all his papers and he even got out of a test next week because he aced a quiz yesterday in class on literary elements. He was beaming and said, "It's so much easier!" LOL I told him it's not that it is easier, it is that he is a hard worker and he can handle it. Anyway...it's one of those moments when you realize all of the hard work pays off even when it's not one of your own children. I'm a happy teacher tonight. Kellie
How wonderful to see the impression you have made on these students, and the positive effect you have had on them - love this!
