I've been all excited about having hardwood floors in the new house but just realized I haven't got the faintest idea about how to clean and care for them. Anybody care to give me a primer so I'll know what I'm up against?

    Not much, really.
It first depends on what type of floors you are getting.

Many times when people say HARDWOOD floors, they mean one of the following: Actual Solid Hardwood, Laminate floors that look like wood, or Engineered wood floors, which ARE real wood, but engineered to be tougher and less likely to fault.

So youhave to determine what type you have or will have before discussing the care of the floor.

We have laminate wood snap-in-place floors.
We treat them like tile, to be honest... I sweep them and damp mop them. And I use BRUCE's FLoor Cleaner... it smells AWESOME! But regular floor cleaner, like MR Clean works, too!

That's it! Rocks the crud out of nasty wall to wall carpeting that irritates DH's allergies, for sure!

Solid woods and engineered wood floors may have different cleaning instructions, but I can't speak to that.

Pretty much any floor cleaner will work. If you don't want to buy floor cleaner, you can just use some water & a few drops of dish soap. A damp mopping once a week will keep them clean. For the occasional, really tough messes a sponge or brush works great.

Did you ask the place where you got it?

Don't do what a past neighbor did! There used to be a guy next door, and one day he was cleaning before a lady friend came over. The man used bleach on the hardwood floors of his living room and dining room! It turned gray. You could smell the bleach coming out of his windows it was so strong!

Wow! What did do, just pour a bottle of bleach straight onto the floor?

We have Pergo which is laminate that looks like hardwood flooring, they snap together. With ours you have to be sure to not allow water to sit on it. I dry mop then wet mop with water or vinegar and water and weekly I use the Pergo spray cleaner.

    You are gonna love em'!

    Pledge on your floor>????

I accidentally allowed some overspray of pledge, from furniture polishing fall onto the floor....

It nearly killed everyone who walked on it, from being so slippery, even AFTER we tried to dry it up!

I cannot imagine purposefully doing the whole floor!

You have some trick that I have never head of hahahah!
