Are you at Luke or DM? we may end up there! If you come to AK they pay for your homeschool curriculum and supplies!

Thank you. We are finding that the curriculum is not as challenging as we thought it would be so are making adjustments here and there. It appears that sometimes it is a bad thing to have been 'free schooling' him from day one when it comes to keeping him in range of his appropriate age/grade!

Welcome! I think I mentioned in another thread that I've been to Cordova, but that's still quite some distance from you! When I was in college, I actually wrote to the Alaska Dept. of Education, and got the addresses of all the school districts in the state. But then, I never followed through. I think I was just in a funk at the time, and the thought of going back home to boring central Ohio, plus sort of "breaking up" with this guy, etc. made me want something "different" in my life, and I had always wanted to go to Alaska! (Sorry, I'm rambling!)

So since you get your curriculum free, are you required to use what they give you, or can you chose whatever you want? Does the government consider you a public school student being taught at home, or are you independent to do what you want? I'm asking out of curiousity. It won't change your welcome here in any way. We have all kinds here, from the very independent, to distant learning, to "school at home", to some who actually attend public school. But regardless, all of us want the best for our kids and are willing to do what we feel is best to provide it!

Welcome! dh and I always had a fondness in our hearts for Alaska and have often thought how wonderful it would be to live there in so many ways.

So glad you have joined us, it's a great place to talk about stuff you're doing and hear what others are doing.

    :)
