Hi I just wanted to say hello. I am hoping to make new friends here. I do not have any close friends where i live, so maybe I will make a few here. I joined a while ago but have not posted much. I think only once actually.

I have been homeschooling my boys for two years and truly love it. Some may consider us a little unschooly. My oldest boy used to be in public school, so he likes doing learning activities in the morning. I have a seven year old and a four year old. My DH is kind of supportive not much. I think he would prefer they were in public school. His mom hates that we homeschool, and lets him know it every chance she gets. He is kind of a mommas boy. Anyway we do school work in the morning and educational games or videos in the afternoon. Does this sound like a good schedule? I also was wondering what fun activities we could do now that the weather is getting cooler. We dont have much money, and my kids are very active. We live in an apartmen so we are very limited. We will be moving to a house, but not until the summer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can i ask what curriculum you use? Welcome to the forum, and im sure you will find lots of helpful girls and guys here to help with anything specific. I think your kids are still so young, there is plenty of time to get schooly, but let them be kids and enjoy the art of learning.

Hello! I also school in the morning only, but mine is also very young. We do very little "work" at all ... maybe 45 minutes a day?

We use Time4learning for both kids. They really seem to enjoy it, and I am able to keep track of what work is getting done, and how much they understand. I also add in a weekly spelling list, and plenty of science experiments once a week. I agree they are young and should really learn to enjoy learning.

that sounds like a good plan! have you always known you were going to hs? i hear ya on living in a a small house or apt! it can be stressful to live on top of each other. i think, even when it gets cold, giving everyone, even you, a 5-30 min outside break each day is awesome!! your kids will still enjoy it, but youi might have to be creative the first few times, do you have a concrete parking area? you could jump rope, or play hopscotch, or just do relays, or bag jump, or throw the beanbag in the hoop, etc.. i have a baby right now, but that is something im going to be doing this winter, is sending my 7 and 9 yr old out and let them work some energy out!

    Welcome :)

Hmmm things to do in the winter? Do you have a McDonalds with a playland? Once it gets too cold for me to hit the park we go to MickyD's about once a week just get some sodas maybe a fry to share and the kids can romp. My oldest is getting too old for the playland now, but I think this winter we will take along the Uno or Skipbo cards and we can do that while the littles run a bit. If you go when most kids are in school it's easier because you don't have to watch what other kids are teaching your kids or making sure your kids are remembering to share the play area.

ChuckECheese is another great place, but we don't have one close, and it's much more expensive than FREE..lol.

At the ages of your kiddos, I would say an hour or two max a day is plenty! My oldest is doing 5th grade, working a year or two ahead in many things and still is done in about 2 hours a day.

Welcome! I am also homeschooling in an apartment. We are fine with it for the most part, but I do have to be more creative when it snows and they can't play outside as much. So far I have been taking them to McDonalds playground, we have a very cheap theater near us (75cents per ticket on Tuesdays) we go to sometimes, and we take advantage of all the library storytimes and programs that fit their ages. Barnes and Noble bookstores also have some wonderful storytimes with crafts and they even have a book club for my older girls. Try searching your area. I'm sure you can find some free or very cheap ways to get them out when you need to. Good luck.

Our local rec center has Homeschool Art/Gym. They also have daytime classes for preschoolers.

Also, a while back I took the kids out hiking once a month, regardless of the weather. (OK, if it was TOO bad, we didn't!) I had a friend I did this with, but she moved out of town and so we stopped.
