I might be posting this in the wrong place, but need some advice. We were at our homeschool promotion night and one of the mom's asked if I was making my own bread (she showed me the bread beckers booth at our convention a couple of years ago). I told her no, that I couldn't afford the start up cost and asked her if she was still making bread. She said no and I (without thinking) asked if she wanted to sell her stuff used. I couldn't remember how much it all cost. Well, she called today and said she had her stuff together. We went by and picked it up. She wouldn't give me a price, but I went online to try to price everything. From what I can figure she gave me about $600 worth of stuff. I was thinking of offering half (which is still ALOT of money for us--I didn't even talk to my husband about it first). We won't have the money until next month, but I'm feeling like I might should return it to her. I wasn't expecting it to come to quite that much. I should have discussed it with my husband; it just happened quick and caught me off-guard.

So, my question is...do you think half is enough to offer her? (After talking to my husband, he said we could afford to offer $200, but I don't think that's enough.) Maybe I could find some houses to clean or something. I'm clueless about what to do. Sorry this post is so long.

    In over my head,
    Patty

Well, I would see if she will give you a price.
Does your husband think you should take it back? Is this something you want to do?
get a price in your head and then tell her you are thinking you might have bitten off more than you can chew and see if she will come up with a price.
It doesn't seem unreasonable to price something you want to sell.

    What exactly did you buy?
    How old is it?

    She gave me:
    -Dimension 2000 Kitchen Center
    -Whisper Mill
-6 gallon bucket of hard white grain (more than 1/2 full)
-6 gallon bucket of soft white grain (more than 1/2 full)
    -5 lb bucket of millet
    -5 lb bucket of gluten
    -5 lb bucket of lecithin
    -tortilla maker
    -recipe book

I didn't realize she'd have all the grains and the tortilla maker. She's very sweet, but I haven't known her long. Hopefully she won't be too upset with me. We were on our way to rehearsal at church. She called me and said she had it together if I wanted to run by and pick it up. I told her I would give her something for it and she said that was fine, that I could do that later.

I'll give her a call and find out how much she wants for it and tell her I didn't realize how much she had and how much it all cost.

I hate to dissapoint people. My husband is already getting on to me for being hard on myself.

    Thanks for the advice,
    Patty

Patty, before you decide anything, call her and see where she prices it all. Then go from there. Tell her what you can afford.

I agree with the above poster--is this something you really want to do? If so, I'd try to work out a solution, not just be hard on yourself for picking up when she called! :)

Please keep us posted with what happens!

I'm not sure. I'd like to try doing this. I have IBS and know it would be so good for me and really healthy for my family.

I've talked to my hubby and I'll pray about it tonight and give her a call tomorrow. This wasn't something we were planning on spending (I kinda gave up on it, because it was so out of our price range). Then this came up out of the blue.

Thanks for being encouraging. I am a BIG people pleaser. These kind of situations are so difficult for me!

    Thanks again,
    Patty

Sounds like the lady is a real sweetie. Just be honest about your situation and I am sure it will all work out. Like Deena said, get a price from her.

I always like to do my homework before I jump into anything, and I hate to admit it but I am really cheap when it comes buying things, which can be a curse and a blessing. :) I am a bargain shopper.

I would see how much she wants for the stuff before I would offer a price because there have been times I was surpised by how little someone wants for their stuff. I bake my own bread and I did some research on the things you got. First, the whisper mill is an excellent grain grinder...top of the line IMO. I have a differnet grain grinder and I love it, but I have friends who have the whisper mill and it is really a nice one. Second, the mixer you got is not top of the line. It will work great and do the job you need it to, but there are others out there that will last longer. I am not saying your won't last though!!!! But because I am bargain shopper, I would use that as leverage to get the price down if I needed to. :) Honestly the grains if I were to buy them, half used I would only pay $15 for them total. that's just my 2 cents.

Thanks, ladies! We had another busy day today, but I'm going to try to call her tomorrow. I emailed her yesterday asking what she wanted, but haven't heard anything back yet. I don't think she'll give me a dollar amount. She knew I was interested, she wasn't using it and knew I would. That's just how she is. Very sweet, but it leaves me wondering what to offer. I am thinking about trying it out and seeing how well I do at it and if it's something I'm sure I'll continue to do before I make a final decision. I'll be sure to let you all know how it works out.

    Blessings,
    Patty

I think $200 would be a fair price to offer. You never really do get back what you put into something when you sell it used. Since she didn't give you an exact price it sounds like she is really just wanting to pass it along to someone who will use it rather than make much money off the sell.

Did you call? I agree to let her tell you a price, and not offer an amount!

    So, what's happened? :D

I didn't get to call. We just got home. We had a birthday party, then went to visit granny today. I'll call her hopefully tomorrow. I don't anticipate her giving me a price. That's just how she is. It is chaotic over here right now. We were supposed to have our evaluations on Friday, but it's been moved to Tuesday and Monday is an all day busy day, too. Tomorrow is a busy day at church and we have to rig a trellis for the garden. Apparently we planted pole beans along with our bush green beans. We have crazy vines growing everywhere!!! I don't want them taking over my tomatoes!

I promise to post when we get it figured out. It's been raining every day and I want to try the whole process out and make sure this is something I'll be faithful to do so I'm not wasting my hubby's money!

    You ladies are so sweet!

    Patty
