I just got back from the local library and asked if they had any curriculum books to check out, like how to read in 100 easy lessons, math u see, etc. They didn't, but the children's librarian said they have a pot of homeschoolers who come in and they would love to expand their resources. She asked if i could come up with a list of suggested materials that they could look into purchasing for the library... so I am asking all of you. What curriculum would you suggest??

The two books that I would recommend to any homeschooling novice who may be a little nervous about the whole endeavor (like myself) are Mary Pride's Complete Guide to Getting Started in Homeschooling, and 101 Top Picks for Homeschooling Curriculum by Cathy Duffy. Those two helped to put my mind at ease considerably.

What Your ______ Grader Needs to Know
Usborne Encyclopedias (World History, Science, and [currently under revision] Geography)
    Apologia Texts
    Abeka Texts

I could go on and on. Those are the basics, though, I think. The ones with the most people who'd want them.

One thing to consider: In our former city, we had a homeschool lending library. The curriculum was all donated. It was also available to be "checked out" an entire school year at a time. It might not be worth more than an easy preview system if the library goes for actual curriculum, but imposes the standard 2 or 3 week check out time.

A lot of people request the books to go along with Sonlight's curriculum, so that all they really have to purchase is the teacher's guide.
