It would be too complicated for me to bring a dish, because of the distance, but I'd be willing to bring two bags of chips!

Crystal~ We had a lady from the town we live in ask us to adopt her little girl (the child is now 7, so it's been awhile!) Anyway, it was at the time when we really wanted another child, so we thought about it. But, my husband said "I would love to adopt the child, but I don't want to adopt the mother!" and that's exactly what it would have been. So, I can totally understand where you're coming from with this birth mother!
Jimmie Lu~ Great idea about the sign. I'm glad you have the nerve to hold it! (I'd be too embarrassed). But, at least this way, we can all find you!
I am so looking forward to meeting ALL of you! This is going to be so much fun. I'll make a dish to share- don't know what yet, but something (either that or I could bring a bag of chips or something).

All you ladies who are meeting in Hershey should wear pins with some sort of ABC theme! That way Jimmie Lu could easily recognize you all, too. It could be as simple as writing the letters on paper, cut them out in a circle & press the circle between clear contact paper. You still have a few days to create something. Wooden letters could be hot glued together and painted or left natural.
Just think- creating the emblem of the ABC(abcteach)Sisterhood!!!

I will bring something to share with all too. Maybe some extra drinks too. Depending on the weather we might want to eat first or shortly after we get there. Food kept in a hot car.. We have a cooler, but not sure of its location right now. Whatever you ladies want is fine with us.
I will try to have my kids make and abc sign too. We have a very busy couple days coming up so not sure how great our sign will be. ;)

When we were last up to the factory it seemed like we passed fifty grocery stores like Weis, Giant, Aldi. Couldn't one of you peek into Weis or Giant for hot or cold fried chicken, then split the cost? As I watch this unfold, I see you all trying to do things the easiest way possible. Something like chicken, Jimmie Lu's potato salad, and a dessert of some sort seems easy and not so expensive. Aldi doesn't have ready to go stuff like that, at least not the one I go to. EXCELLENT prices, though. Cheap, cheap, cheap!
I am pretty sure 24 pieces of chicken at Giant is less than 15.00
We get an 8 piece for the weekend and that's only 4.99. We get their ring cakes, too, and I think they are 3.99 or 4.99. Weis has very similar prices, but I think Giant has better fried chicken! ;) Plus, I think they both have websites so you can double check prices and store locations.

Thanks for the idea Becky, but I think my gang will stick with some home made sandwiches. Half my crew is still loving the old p&j sandwiches.
I think Giant may be the closest store if you other ladies are interested.

Yeah, my little one is stuck on pb&j now, especially that mixed kind. And you're right, that would go over better with the kids. I was in saving time and work mode. Sorry.

I'm with Crystal. Bringing stuff to share is fine, but I think the "main dish" would be easier with our own sandwiches. We'll have a cooler anyway; we usually take one when traveling any distance. Last year we bought one that you actually plug into the cigarette lighter! Trouble is, you have to turn it off when you stop the car for any length of time, or it will run down your battery.

Someone mentioned, I thought, doing this again in the fall. Maybe then, depending on my husband's work schedule. It does sound like fun!

Ladies, I hate to bring this up, but......do we have a back-up plan for the picnic if it's storming? I know we can still tour the factory, and my family WILL be there regardless of the weather because the hotel room has already been paid for. We're excited, and Jimmy Lu, Rachael almost has your daughter's quilt patch finished to bring! It's scarlet and grey...Ohio State colors.

Sounds good to me! This summer, we spent a month camping in New England. They kept predicting thunderstorms, etc. but we actually only had TWO DAYS of rain, and the kids dealt with them wonderfuly. We were able to find a local library each time, which to MY family is better than going to the movies, LOL! We considered ourselves EXTREMELY blessed as far as the weather. Rachael finished your daughter's patch today. We need to make a picture of it, as we're considering it as the "service project" portion of her sewing 4-H project and will want to include it for the County Fair.
