Hello everyone. I am new to the forum but not to homeschooling. Our twins were in public school through 4th grade and we started homeschool in 5th grade. That was 3 years ago and we have no plans to return to ps!!! The first year was a major adjustment, but we found a great co-op and have been sailing along these last 2 years. I have one question, when you all list or talk about your kids, what does ds and dd stand for? I look forward to sharing info with everyone!
Hello and welcome to the Spot! Can't wait to get to know you! I have twins also, but mine are not quite 2 years old. ds stands for Dear Son, and dd stands for Dear Daughter. You'll also see dh for Dear Hubby, and sometimes that particular "d" especially might also stand for something else. Lots of abbreviations here, especially when it comes to curriculum. If you're ever confused, just ask! Looking forward to chatting with you and I hope you stick around!
Hi and welcome to the spot. To answer your question, dd means darling daughter, ds means darling son, & dh means darling husband. That's about all the lingo I know though.
This makes me wonder just what the public school system as a whole looks like, not just our district! I see a lot of Arkansans here, myself included! With this many opting out of public school we cannot be wrong, can we! Welcome!
I just moved to AR from Springfield, MO. The area was so completely overrun with homeschoolers that I think people already felt connected to dozens of organizations that they didn't feel like they needed to be in an online support system. There weren't many here from SWMO. But here, homeschooling is so much less common and normal that maybe that's why we have such a presence on the Spot?
Actually, there is a large homeschool community in NW AR, from what I hear. Also, there are alot of homeschoolers in the central AR area. I have no real problem with the public schools in particular. Our district is good. I am a product of the LR school disctict! We just wanted to be the primary influence on our children and let them mature naturally, without all of the teenage drama and influnce!
I don't know about NW AR, but by comparison to SWMO, the community in central AR is small. Yes, it's significant and larger than most other areas of the country, but it's a matter of perspective. I'm certainly not complaining! I love my HS friends here and have found no need unfulfilled (except sports teams... there aren't any sports leagues here! A couple of wants, but no needs.). I was just trying to wrap my mind around why the representation on The Spot from this area seems higher than that of SWMO. Then again, perhaps the two ideas are completely unrelated. Who really knows?
HI, fellow arkansasans!! I am down here in the south!! We have a great homeschool co-op down here. Seems it is growing yearly!! i am so glad I am not the arkie here!!
