I just joined, but wanted to introduce myself. My name is Christina, I go by Kris. I have a DH of 11 years, a DS 10 (Autistic) and DD 9 1/2 (possible ADHD). We decided to home school the kids after 3 years for DS and 2 years for DD in public school. DS's 1st grade teacher was awesome and helped us a lot with testing for his Autism. His 2nd grade teacher was OK, but wouldn't do anything that wasn't on his IEP. He went 1 day to 3rd grade and we pulled him. DD had an awesome K teacher, a nice but flaky 1st grade teacher, and 1 day in 2nd grade with a nasty teacher. So we have been doing the unschooling thing for a couple years now, and I think they have learned more the last two years then they did when they were in a public school. That about sums it up for us.
Welcome to the spot! Yes, they do learn more at home! I was AMAZED at how much more progress my son made in so many areas in one year of unschooling compared to his 2 years in PS.
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I hope to be able to start reading and posting more. We've been very busy last few days!!
