I had my devotions this morning and prayed for each one of my children as usual. My dd got up earlier than usual, went in the livingroom to do her devotions, then came in awhile later and said, "I want to say all of James 1 for you." And she did! We all worked on learning James a year or so ago, and she decided a few days ago to get back to it. So she practiced, and can now say James 1 (27 verses!) by heart! I'm so pleased! It's so much better to have The Word in her heart than other things that could be there with the world like it is these days!
That's great. We are just working on memory verses. Although I think Natalie 8 could do something longer. HMMMM
How wonderful! We are only working on memory verses that correspond with our bible/character development lessons. That is just so wonderful!
That is fantastic! I will be working with Samantha a lot more this year on memorizing verses and whole chapters.
Thanks everyone. I think we will be happy we helped our children learn scripture! It really IS amazing how much of it they can learn, and at what ages. I know that the Waldenses memorized scripture in huge passages. They "homeschooled" mostly with scripture! Their very young chldren were brought up with it so much, that I'm sure they had as much as was available to them memorized! Tiffany, Look at James, maybe. It really does say some neat things, that's why I had us learning some of it awhile back! Of course there are other neat things to memorize too! If they ever ask why, they can memorize "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee." So the answer is, "To fill yourself up so much with GOD'S word, that there's no room for satan to get in!!!"
That's awesome, Deena! You and your kids are such an example and inspiration! Keep telling us of all the wonderful spiritual achievements they are earning for the Lord!
