We have to empower them instead of worrying about them. Easier said than done, lol. And look- just today I heard the principal of the christian school say she puts her 10th grade son's backpack by the door!!! Please- and I tell my 10 yr old gathering her stuff is her responsibility!!
Well, Jeannie shadowed in 6th grade today. It went nicely. The 6th grade science teacher is one of those that would give me looks when I'd wait for Jeannie at specials, reading my TEs as I did that. She never said hello, never acknowledged my presence as I stood beside Jeannie when we arrived, and never said goodbye to me or Jeannie when we left. Hehe..I hope she's J's homeroom teacher next year, lol.
When my dd is complaining and not focusing (ok, when is she not?lol) I threaten her with "would you like to go to ps?" She immediately straightens up! I think a day in one of our ps's here would totally change her attitude about homeschooling. These schools are just plain scary. Pregnant middleschoolers, metal detectors to screen for weapons, 2nd graders getting beat up unconcious by 7th graders...
I am just reading this now and I am glad it went well today. I put my ds in a charter school about 9 weeks ago and it was the BEST decision we ever made. My ds sounds like a few of your children...I dreaded getting up, the fighting was constant, etc. He is still getting used to a few things about school, but he is thriving. I am actually sad to see summer break come. *Did I just say THAT?!* I love my ds to pieces but he is my most difficult child and going to school has not only calmed things at home during the day, but he is much more agreeable when he gets home....in fact he does his homework when he gets home and he doesn't even complain! Your dd will do GREAT next year!!
Sounds like you had a great situation already with the school doing specials so it should be an easy transition for her to intigrate in with the rest. Congrats...sounds like you made a great decision for your dd
When I was preggers with Phillip, we had two neighbors that were also expecting (three babies in a two month period...must be something in the water!!!). Well, I went off on the men one day. They were saying they were hoping for girls, because then it was Mom's responsibility rather than theirs. Boy, did I let them have it with both barrels!!!
Wow, Becky. You will still be popping in and giving us updates right? I am happy that she can do that, the idea of a clean house really is inviting! I was going to send ds out next year for 9th to a Christian school but we can't afford to do that for another year> He really wants to go because he has friends there. That is the whole reason, the curriculum wont be much different for him, they use SOS, so I am working this coming fall on getting him more independent because the teacher runs it like home school. His next home based school year will be as close to how the teacher there runs things so I can be assured he can keep up with the task and not just play around. I am also glad you are keeping it set that she has to complete the year can say " I quit" if the going gets tough. Good luck with the Gym! HA!
I'm sure your daughter will do fine. I find this ironic b/c all the reasons listed are the reasons we started HS. My Garrett is my trial child. I was fighting him to get up and go to PS everyday. (The principal actually came to the house and picked him up one morning. That was the breaking point for me BTW. I prayed and prayed and found CVA that afternoon and it was an answer to my prayers.) It was a battle everyday and my life (and his brothers' lives) were a living disaster. He has been so much better with HS. He still slips occasionally and we had to have a talk if I was going to fight him to do his work everyday, then I would put him back into PS. (But we have been through a stressful month. His dad was home b/c he was off work for 3 weeks and then my mom came in for a week. He doesn't transition to change well. Plus school is almost over and he doesn't want to finish strong. ) The family has worked together to make better curriculum choices for next year, so the work will be more enjoyable.
