I tried to answer this yesterday. I'll have to check with my oldest. She makes her own lip balm/lip sticks using old crayons and olive oil. She melts in on the stove and pours into old lip balm containers. She's made some really pretty colors. It seems pretty easy, she turns one of our small pans into a double boiler by putting a glass bowl on top of the simmering water (don't let the bottom of the bowl touch the water in the pan). Melts the crayon and then adds about a tsp of olive oil. Then she pours the results into an empty lip balm container or little "pot" type container. Crayons are non-toxic. Wouldn't call them "natural" but….

I imagine there is recipes out there. Probably using coconut oil and essential oils?

I make lip balm. It is REALLY easy. I use bees wax, shea butter, aloe vera, essential oils, castor oil, coconut oil, and vitamin E oil. I do not use a recipe. The shea butter, coconut oil, and bees wax will be your base. Make a texture you like, then add the other ingredients. I make a lot, then store it away. When I need more, I just melt it down and refill the tubes.

I melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a Pyrex measuring cup. I melt the beeswax in a large spoon over a low heat. Once it is melted, I add it to the Pyrex cup. Then I allow it to cool to see if it is the consistency I want. When it is what I want, I melt it again and add the other ingredients. I use a dropper or a small plastic spoon to fill the tubes.
