Greetings from San Diego, North County! I was home schooled and my wife and I are home schooling our 5 year old son. My son coming along motivated me to create some educational entertainment software tailored around him and my passion these days is keeping up with educational entertainment software that people are using to teach their kids in a home school setting. Some examples of what I've found so far are Alice and Crayon Physics. I think we are on the cusp of the entire world changing because the technical things that kids need to learn can all be taught using a computer. The software isn't created yet, but I think it is coming and I'm really excited about the future where most children by the age of 10 have a strong grasp of how the physical world works rather than just a few adults.
I was thinking about this too gandalf. There are some really quality sites out there where anyone can engage in high level education for free!! Kahn Academy is one I found while exploring this site and it's absolutely awesome. Being an amateur political junkie I have to laugh at how many times we've heard politicians go on and on about the need for ALL people to have the opportunity for an education, and while they are stealing our mobey while brick and mortar centered education continues to languish, problem silvers like Salman Kahn are actually DOING it. For free, and for all. Incredible. Welcome...can't wait to hear further about upcoming educational software.
