Well, the time has come to send my daughter to school next year. My husband and I agreed that we would only homeschool until high school. It was junior high...but he let that slide. lol. He is all for 1/2 day homeschool and 1/2 day school...which is offered a few schools but he wants her to be in a school. Anyway...that is neither here nor there and I no longer take issue with it anyway.

Point being...we decided on a school for my daughter to visit. It is one of the best in the city. Crazy high test scores and amazing classes and hands on science like robotics. I emailed to for a "shadow" day. I told the director of the school she was homeschooled and wondered if he needed transcripts. He did not answer that question but was excited we were interested in the school. So, when I confirmed her shadow day, I asked about transcripts again. He said one of the biggest "feeder" schools was a homeschool co-op in a suburb near mine. That suburb has excellent schools. Unbelievable they come to the city...the school is in a not too pretty part of town...not bad...just ugly to look at...LOL...LOL. Yes, I meant that visually. LOL. Anyway, he said that those students do very well so he does not need transcripts. He would be happy to look over anything I can provide but from his impression of homeschoolers he does not need to worry about it. This is technically a public school. More of a charter school...but not charter...it focuses on the sciences.

Also...come to find out...on a different note...that not only does the school have plenty of homeschooled kids...my daughter knows of some students who go there because they attend her friend's church's youth group. Wow...awkward sentence...LOL.

I thought I would have a hard time with the fact she was homeschooled and I do not! Another school we considered is also homeschool friendly. Woohoo!

Point being...homeschoolers are making a great impression even on the schools. I love seeing that! At another school the principal said the homeschooled kids scored higher on the graduation test than any other students in the school. (school offers the 1/2 homeschool, 1/2 school type thing)

Keep up the good work, homeschool moms!

Wow! So glad to hear from you...and that things seem to be going so well. It is so much easier to transition when it seems to be such a good fit.

I am still very close to some of my former teachers. They dote on homeschooling and homeschooled kids. If anything, they seem to wish there was something more that could be done for one-on-one help for the ps kids who need it.

Thanks for the update and the encouragement. Don't be a stranger, either. :)

Thanks Brooke! I have been busy with online things...so something had to give or I would have been permanently attached to my chair. But, I gave a few things up and had to pop over here. I miss this place so much!

wow, I am so happy for you! This sounds great! I am glad home schoolers are looking good at public highschools there! That is super!
I wish we had a school like that around here that was not already full or charges. It would take that for ds to go out. He chose to stay home next year if I can work at the local private school while he is taught by me he can be apart of the school and not apart at the same time.. sort of still home school but out of the home.

I wish it was as easy as yours sounds though! HAHA!

Wow! That's pretty impressive. Hopefully the homeschoolers can make a very positive impact on the kids who weren't homeschooled. :)
