Does anyone know the laws or requirements to homeschool in Nevada? My brother is going to get married in the near future and is marrying a lady who has a daughter. He asked me to find out how to get started. They feel led to do homeschool. I was also wondering if any of you know a cover there or maybe a support group he could contact. Thanks, melanee
Melanee, have them contact HSLDA. This is the Homeschool Legal Defense Association. They are the experts on homeschooling law, and will answer any questions and can also get them in touch with state support groups. www.hslda.org Phone: 540-338-5600
Yes, Jackie is right go call Hslda they are wonderful they have a web site too you can go on. Also, contact your local library they might know of any local groups for them to join or church might know also of any groups in the area.
The HSLDA website gives a summary of the laws on homeschooling in Nevada. No testing or recordkeeping it says.
I live in Las Vegas ,NV. All you have to do is sign a letter at the local school district office that says you are homeschooling. You need to file EVERY year. They CAN NOT ask for YOUR OR YOUR CHILDS social security # (it is againist the STATE LAW) and they can not ask you what you are teaching/ what books you will be using. All you do is fill out the paper ,put your name and address , your child(s) name and address and THAT IS IT! Nevada is VERY homeschool friendly, they even have their own homeschooling board that monitors state legislation and the state boards ask for their input on all education matters! http://www.doe.nv.gov/schools/homeschooling.html This website is from the state and details what you need and the laws. Just click on HOMESCHOOLING INFORMATION. http://www.nevadahomeschoolnetwork.com/ This website will give you alot of info about Nevada homeschooling. Just click on the links on the LEFT hand side of the page.
Thanks you Crystal that is great. I will let him know. I will get him in contact with hslda too. Thanks everyone, Melanee
