interesting that immunisation is a requirement (mentioned at the end of the article). Is that the case in other states? There would be a huge outcry here if they tried to legislate immunisation, although they are 'encouraging' it very heavily by tying government child support payments to it....still, it is the parents choice.
It is here in NC. I'm fairly certain it is in all states (someone may prove me wrong). There are some provisions for opting out for religious beliefs but I don't know how public schools deal with that. So, yeah, you pretty much have to.
Children in Indiana are not required to be immunized. We also do not have to have a letter of intent to home school unless you are pulling them out. We also do not have to test them or give our cirriculum either. We do have to teach for 180 days in the English language. =) Good thing it isnt another language! =)
Schools may state that immunizations are a "requirement" for their school, but I believe that it is still illegal to demand that the children be immunized against their parents' religious beliefs. It sounds like "double talk," but a lot of things do. All doctors should have forms for you to sign which exempt your children from this requirement. These forms should satisfy any school's, camp's, or other institution's perceived duty to have all the kids under their jurisdiction duly taken care of.
