Well, I'm thinking pulling my youngest next year may be needed. I'm HS my 12 yr old, but my 7 year old may be joining him. He's had 3 stomach flus, 2 rounds of diarrhea and then last night he was in the ER getting icepacks around his head for his fever and all three tests were positive. Strep, Influenza and Rotovirus. Due to his steroids his immune system is just gone! PS is just a breeding ground. He got IV antibiotics and 3 prescriptions to get him through. He's already missed about 16 days this yr. Now he's home for another week. Which may actually be a test of whether or not I can school 2 at once. Clearly we have some thinking to do.

When DS7 was small he spent close to 3 yrs in & out of the Children's Hospital. We knew when he started school last year that we may have a problem with illnesses. And of course we did. But this year seems worse. From the damage to his lungs, he's had to stay on the steroids, but they've just depleted his immunities. I'm just thinking maybe PS isn't the best place for him. And I'm convinced the janitor never cleans the touchable areas, only the floor. I'm hoping this week will help me to make the right decision. I'm going to try and work with him while working with my other son and see where we get. Last night at the hospital, he was telling the docs about the nucleus and chloroplasts in plant cells...clearly he's been listening to his big brothers science anyway. :D I guess we'll just see how this week goes. And hopefully DS12 won't be too distracted by his lil bros presence.

I'm thinking you might consider pulling him for health reasons NOW. And you're probably right about the janitor. They don't clean things like door handles and desks on a regular basis.

I third it, I would pull him he has missed so much already this year that you can make up with... him at home where he can stay healthy and grow stronger.

Consider that every day he attends public school is another day in which he will become sicker.

    Then pull him now.

You'll be able to catch him up much more quickly at home. He's going to be miserable trying to get caught up when he does go back to the classroom.

You can do it! We believe in you, and we'll be your cheering squad too!

Hope he heals quickly. It must have been one intense night!

    Blessings,

Thanks everyone. So far...crazy..in a word! LOL However, he loves watching Brain Pop videos with his brother. Today he sat through an entire lesson on sponges. He got bored when we switched to finding surface areas of 3D objects LOL...In his defense, I did too! But I let him make a cereal box into a 'net' while his brother did the measurements to find the surface area. Spacial reasoning has always been a thorn in DS12's side, so I'm sure DS7 didn't love that part. BUT, if he's HS he'll have his own lessons anyway. Just gotta get DH on board. We hadn't really discussed the lil guy yet.

I would discuss it quickly. He'll be so much better off at home. It's hard when you have one that is immuno-suppressed in a PS environment. There's just no way to avoid the germs that breed all over the place. I would just be sure that they have their own workspaces so your older one won't be so frustrated with the extra noise, etc. that is sure to accompany little guy around:) Hope he's better soon and you can find what will be best for your family!
