Great film. thanks for the heads up. It's one character, one film, no biggie. Think about all the mom and dad portrayals in films, TV, & literature. The funny thing about stereotypes is that they're only funny if they find a frequent characteristic and make a caracture out of it. They can too oft repeated or on sore points etc. But they're not going away despite PC. Learn to deal...

I am not sitting down and taking this anymore...

Every time I mention a "Please be aware" post about something, there is always some doofuss that does not actually READ the original post and thinks that there is some fear mongering, "hide your children from the world", bull crap going on...

    SIGH....

Why is it that illiterate people do not know the difference between the words; "Be Aware" And "Beware"?

Oh! That's right! Because they are illiterate!

Please stop telling me to "Deal with it." If you are too lazy to actually READ the original post.

Here is your CLIFF'S Notes version:
It is simply a "Heads-up" for those who might be surprised by said element in the movie, and for people like me who have very young children or who may have sensitive children. Giving those who feel the need to take the advice and use the opportunity to prepare. (No one said anything about not dealing with it. In fact, THAT is EXACTLY what we are doing!) Duh!

What in the world is so wrong with THAT?

You know there ARE actually billions of DIFFERENT people in the world. Which means that there are probably MORE children who are DIFFERENT from your child than there are SIMILAR to your child. And helping others along is not fear mongering or sheltering, it is HELPING. Or did you miss out on the whole "Be Tolerant" lesson of the "Real World"?

    Oh! That's right....
Many people in the world are intolerant of other peoples issues and seem to think that "Be Aware", and BEWARE" are the same thing...

    You're incorrect, friend....
I am not going to be bullied by some random posts to "BEWARE" posting for the benefit of others. If it offends you that I post a "Heads Up" for other parents, then perhaps YOU need to DEAL WITH IT!

Off to have fun with my kids....

Are you saying that because my kids may need a primer to be prepared to see that particular character, because when someone makes fun of homeschoolers, my 7 and 5 year old children are saddened, that they are from the dark ages?

Sorry, not sure how to read that. :?:

Jen! Simmer down, honey! :) Breathe.

I see your point and I don't disagree.

I think Becky, though, was poking fun at herself, just making a funny remark. Come back and read it when you aren't so upset. :) *Pats my usually level-headed friend on the shoulder.*

I, for one, like being made "aware" of certain elements before going into movies. I had actually already read about the way they portrayed HS but am still glad to see a post here to give me something to think about.

We had wanted to see this movie but may need to wait to rent it as there's too many places that extra money needs to go....

I agree that there are some many wonderful things about this movie. However, I will not allow my children to see it a second time regardless of it good qualities. I took my children on the basis of recommendations from out churches homeschool coop. They did say that 'boob' and 'idiot' were mentioned but led me to believe that they were said only once each. We almost walked out of the movie after the third 'boob' comment. To me it is inappropriate for a movie aimed at a child to contain that word repeatedly. The same applies in my opinion to idiot. I do not allow my children to say derogatory words and both were said wayyyyy toooo many times for me.

It is not a movie I would recommend to a younger 1st grade or lower child. It is too hard to explain why characters in a movie are allowed to say them and not them.

This is only my personal opinion and the opinion of my spouse. I respect your opinions and agree with the symbolism in the movie and the possible pro-life position. If they could eliminate those two words I would have given it a very high recommendation.

Wow it always amazes me when I see how different we as parents are.

And JenniferErix I am NOT refering to you or you posting the Be Aware!!

I mean word like Boob and idiot do not offend me at all and if my kids hear them I am not worried. I am not saying anything bad about anyone here so for goodness sakes please nobody take it that way.

I am simply saying that certain things make me see from time to time how different families are from one to the next. I allow a lot of things that apparently a lot of families here wouldn't allow. I say this from experience on this board.

    Different strokes for different folks!

It would be a very boring world if we were all the same don't ya think?

Are you sure you aren't my long lost sister Tiffany. Man oh Man I feel the same way. To me boob is part of life and our body. Sure glad we all are different.

I LOOOOVE the diversity of this board!
    It rocks!

My only problem, is when people see a "Be Aware" post and react as if if I am trying to boycot a movie or over-shelter my kids or something.

I am sooo totally not that person and It is so irritating when people miss the point of a post.

    Does that make sense?

I appreciate it when someone posts something we should be aware of. If you agree...good. If not, take it with a grain of salt.

Although the words boob and idiot are not bad words, my kids are not alowed to call anyone those names. Idiot is not allowed at all. We don't call each other names-period. You may however, hear one of the many females in our house refer to "boobies" as a part of their bodies.

I probably will let my kids see the movie. But I appreciate the insight.

OH, and I think Becky was sincere, too -just poking fun at herself.

I read that Becky was saying she, herself, was from the dark ages, not you and your kids, Jen.

ANd, I always appreciate it when people post be aware, or their thoughts on movies, books and curriculum! That's one reason I like this place! It's just good to see what people think, and I think it's very kind for people to post their opinions and warnings, in case anyone DOES feel like them and wants to watch out for something!

We don't plan on seeing it, from the first time I heard news it was going to be released, I didn't care for it. We really love the old cartoon version one and seeing this would just ruin it for us. Not to mention I DO try to keep trash from entering my kids minds, as much as I can anyhow. ;)

I appreciate when people give me heads up on movies, directed towards children, also. I use the IMD to look things up normally.
