Please pray for a friend of ours friend. If that makes any sense. Her daughter just had a baby and had a tough delivery and then the hospital dropped the baby right after it was born.:eek: The baby is in a childrens hospital right now. And to top it off the doctor didn't even put it in his report that the baby was dropped! Please pray that their wasn't any damage.

    Lee, that is so sad.
But, I worked in the hositpal for years on OBGYN and I just want you to know. If the baby was dropped and truely drop ( I do believe you) but I am saying if it's true then they need to get it on record in case something happens later on in life. They need to have the baby checked over good and ask for all kinds of x ray to check the little bones.
But, Please if you talk to them have them get it in writing and on paper that is so important.
If something happen it will be there word againist the them and they will not win. Everything is writing is so important.

Oh, they have already made sure that it is in writing. This is the only reason the baby is in childrens hospital right now. They are covering all their ends. I just pray that this baby does not have any damage.

My cousin died because of someone dropping him. I will be praying for this little one and the family. I may sound cruel, but I hope whoever dropped the baby looses their license to practice. This is so wrong and there is no excuse!

    Oh that poor family!!!

I am pregnant and sooo scared to go to the hospital. Staff just tends to do whatever they want with no regard for the people they are supposed to be tending to. Then they write whatever version they want in the records.

I don't know if I'd go this far. Accidents do happen, and it's not like they did it on purpose (you'd hope). We are all only human. I'm actually curious to know what exactly happened and how the baby fell.

I hope the baby is ok. The baby is in God's hands.

I've heard that it happens more than you'd think.

We question whether or not our dd10's issues are caused by hospital negligence at birth. She was allowed to go 8 hours without sufficient oxygen, even though we questioned why she was blue. It wasn't until the pediatrician made rounds that evening that she was rushed to the NICU and placed on oxygen. We have never considered suing. It's not going to change things. I will say that if it caused severe problems that resulted in constant medical care, I would have considered it - just to make sure she was properly taken care of.

I hope the baby is OK and that there are no serious effects from the fall.

It comes down to investigating, if you have the choice of hospitals...which one has a better reputation.
You might look for a Planetree affiliated hospital. The planetree system is all about pt/family care as the priority and the staff is trained in really looking out for that.
I work L&D/nsy in a small regional hospital... I have never seen anyone drop a baby. (in 16 years) But there have been some close calls. They come out pretty slippery and if it isn't a controlled push...well sometimes it is a bit like a cork. If I do a delivery because the Dr. doesn't make it...I never "break the bed" which is taking the end off for more access...that way the baby can "fall" two inches.
Of course, the infant could be dropped later...but we do try to prevent those sorts of things. (hence the rules about the baby being in the bassinet)
As to the other issue...nursing not catching a blue infant...if that was any time during the last 15 years that is negligence. It is basic to look at what color the baby is. If a parent questions it I will check the O2 sat in front of them. it is non invasive and easy to check. Now, more than 16-20 years ago it was a very complicated procedure and very invasive...so that would be a mitigating factor.

Update - The baby is home. He does have occasional seizures but everything else seems to be okay.

Thanks for the update. I have been wondering how the baby was doing. I will continue to pray for him and the family. Such a scary thing to have happen.
