I have that responsibility with my ds, too. My dh just can't handle that kind of discussion at all! I don't mind, I just think they are missing out on something special for them.

This topic reminds me of a funny story.
I was in my early twenties and visiting a dear friend who was living with her parents. Her youngest brother was still very young. Her mom asked the dad to start teaching the boy how to clean his p**** when he bathes because she felt it would be better coming from him, being a man. (I didn't write the word because I don't want to offend anybody even if it is the proper word.:D )
So his dad had to take a shower and decided to bring his son in with him and show him how to clean himself. My friend, her mom, and I were sitting at the table talking when the little boy runs out of the bathroom, buck naked, wide eyed, and dripping with water. He is so amazed and shouts out loud, "Mommy!!! Mommy!!! Guess what??? Daddy's pee pee has a mustache!!!"
We laughed so hard and the poor dad did not come out of his room until I left.

    Oh, how great!!!

There's a web site, I think Crystal mentioned it, where they had the books I used for Rachael. I would guess they would have books appropriate for boys, too! Check out the thread about talking with daughters. The girl books are excellent, and I would expect any boy books they have to be good, too.

We checked out a book called "It's Not the Stork" that was pretty good. My two oldest boys looked through the cartooney pictures and we read through most of it together. There is another book about puberty that I think I will look through first. The "stork" book identified body parts of boys and girls with correct names, and had quite a good explanation of how babies grow. (They show a pregnant woman in a movie theater- labeled "Hungry woman"- and she is eating popcorn. But it shows a "cutaway" of her insides to show that the popcorn goes into her stomach, but the baby is in a seperate part of her stomach. That led to quite a bit of discussion about foods and nutrients going to the baby, but seperately.) Did that make sense? Anyway, the book also talks about strangers and a child's privates being private, etc.

My kids just appreciated that we could talk about it, and they can ask me questions anytime, without feeling like it was some big "untouchable" subject! Depending on a child's age/maturity- just talk to them about what you think they feel comfortable with. We had touched a little on the subject when our guinea pigs had babies, so that was a help too.

Oh, and pray for the right words- that helps alot!!

I'm sure my DH will be doing his talks to our sons, but..... I have no idea how he'll put it in words.

Here are a few that I have found at Amazon.com:

From boys to men: all about adolescence and you by Michael Gurian......the inside of the book can also be view at Amazon.com as well.

What's going on down there? Answers to questions boys find hard to ask by Karen Gravelle....inside can be viewed at Amazon.com also.

What's happening to my body: Book for Boys by Lynda Madaras ( she also wrote another boys book that will be listed under this title as well)

The christian based online bookstore did not have any on puberty for boys ( I just did a quick search) but here is the website:

Here's teh site that has the books I got for my girls:

    http://www.generationsofvirtue.org/

The menu has a "For Boys" link, but when you click on it, it only has to large (and expensive!) collections of books. If you look to the left, it will have AGE GROUPS to click on. Click there, and you will be able to see what is available on an individual basis.

Again, I've not looked at any of their stuff for boys, but was quite impressed with what I got for my girls!
