I'm curious as to what you all use to clean tubs, showers, floors--marble tile, and wood in particular.

One thing I'm curious about also is that we have marble tile in our bathroom (it was there when we got the house---I would NEVER pick it!), and the hairspray and spray gel mists we use in our hair land on it and it gets kind of sticky and turns darker. I'm not sure what to use that would work best. Any ideas on that?

In our bathroom we have a marble sink, and i thought it was a nasty color, but i used Old Dutch Cleaner and it was white lol, so once in a while (Notice i say once in a while miss no routine here) i will clean with this and it works well. As for wood, all depending what wood it is, i was taught in the Army to use water and vinegar, it leaves a nice shine.

    Glenda,

You're too funny! I try my hardest not to either, but it just won't go away on it's own. Then suddenly I can't stand it anymore and have to do something! :?

Sheesh, I can't even remember the type of finish on our wood floor, but they told us when we bought the house that with the type of floor it is, do NOT use water and vinegar. I'm not sure why.

    Thanks you guys!

    Deena....

I think I've tried all the cleaners on the market. We have a tile floor in our bathroom and it does show hairsprays and such. I typically use a swiffer to mop it but that doesn't always get it all. Sometimes I use a Lysol tub and tile foam and spray on it and let it sit for a little bit. Then, I just take a wet cloth and wipe it clean. Lysol is pretty good about getting things clean ( and germ free). I also use it in the showers/toilets. I spray Tilex on the tile grout to clean the mildew stains and it works great. Oh, another thing you can do is use a steamer if you have one. I have two kinds...a floor model and a handheld. They are a little more work getting them out and ready but they also will do the trick. I have used the floor steamer on our wood floors too and they claim to do no harm. It seems to do well cleaning them. Other times I just use a swiffer type mop to clean them.

    tile

I have ceramic tiles in my bathroom and I use Clorox Cleanup and it works great to get up hairspray and such.
I have laminate wood floors in living room and I just use swiffer sweeper wet wipes to mop with.
As far the bathtub my husband works at Michelin Tire and he comes home with something on him that loves to stick to the tub. I have tried everything but still can't find what works best. Good Luck with that one.

We use the Swiffer for our wood floors, seems to do pretty well. Other times I just get down on my hands and knees and crawl around doing spot cleaning, then swiffer it.

Hmmm, I may have some Tilex, I should check. I haven't heard of Clorox Cleanup, I'll have to try that one!

Hey, I did find a GREAT spot cleaner for carpets. Actually two. Clorox Oxi-Magic does quite well. But we were very impressed with Woolite Oxy-Deep. It seems to really get it all out! Just fyi.

Anyone ever hear of Barkeepers Friend? It's like Comet or Ajax, only works MUCH MUCH better. I use it in the sinks and the tub. It's the only thing that will get EVERYTHING out, including those really bad hard water deposits. For wood floors there is a special solution you can buy at Home Depot and they also have stuff for tile, but it can be rather expensive. We have ceramic tile and I use Mr. Clean solution. Our tile is in the kitchen and dining room though, so we don't have the hairspray thing in there to deal with. Water and vinegar do work really well on most woods, and so does Murphy's Oil Soap.

Clorox Cleanup can be found near the 409 and Fantastic. It is in a spray bottle.

    Re: tile

Have you tried Kaboom? I LOVE that stuff. It's the best bathroom cleaner out there IMO.

I was a judge a couple of years ago or so for our local christian school science fair. One kid's project was trying out all those ideas about how coke works like that. They came up empty so concluded it's "old wives tales". The coke did not clean their toilet, and it did NOT "eat" a steak, as some rumors have said. I don't remember the other things they tried, but NONE of them worked. That was just their experience, so thought I'd share. Who knows, maybe it'd work for you!

I think I may try it anyway. I wondered if it was true seems like we would die after drinking it.

By the way, Deene, is Monica the daughter of Essie Mae you were talking about?

Wow! A trip down amnesia lane....We kept Barkeeper's Friend in our kitchen and that was the only thing that worked to get our iron water out of our porcelain tub!

Anyone here use meleluca products? I use their dishwasher detergent....bleach free :D I'd like some feedback from someone other than my darling bestest friend who sells it and recruits people by the dozens under her.

    Bar Keeper's Friend is great!

Just recently tried pouring Coke into our toilet to clean some stubborn stains - useless! Bar Keeper's Friend worked much better!

Can someone tell me what the vinegar to water ratio should be? I keep meaning to try it on our wood floors. Does it disinfect as well as clean? Does it need to be white vinegar or can it be apple vinegar?

This is an interesting thread - picking up some good tips!

Cleaning isn't my favorite, but I've got a routine down. Clutter is my nemesis!!!   Any other "pack rats" here at the Homeschool Spot?

    Blessings,

I am a recovering pack rat.... 8) . It took me getting to the disgusted point to really change. And still I will let things build up in some trouble spots, like the kitchen table and our "homeschool" cabinet...oh, and the top of my dresser  . Guess I'm far from cured, huh? I posted not long ago about how I went and "Clean Sweep"-ed my whole house. It made me feel soooooo much better! Less is definitely more!
