My dh and i are planning on renewing our vows in Dec. It will be our 10th anniversary. Now i originally like the idea, and then we saw it on Jon and Kate, and yes i know, they are split, but still the idea resonates in me. it is a great way to show our dc that we are committed 100% and that we will always stick together as a family. my dad thinks it is weird, and doesnt get it, but we are still doing it. it is going to be super simple just family and close friends who want to come. and our kids will stand up with us. i need to find a nice ceremony to follow, as our pastor has never done this type of ceremony. and we will write our own committment vows to each other. i think it will be special but just wondered, have any of you done this, or gone to a renewal. do you think it is cheesy, lol. none of our friends have done it, but we love the idea or recommitting ourselves. sort of like if you rededicate your life to Christ i guess.

I think it's a great idea, DH and I are actually planning to do this as well for our 10th anniversary which is still 3 years away. We are most likely going to do it somewhere outside, and keep it pretty simple. We are going to write our commitments to each other, most likely we'll include the children somehow but we haven't decided how yet. We won't be wearing wedding type stuff, but we'll dress up and we'll have our pastor make a kind of speech/message on marriage and commitment. Our pastor is great with speeches and the like so we'll just let him come up with it all. We have a place picked out though and it's so pretty in the late winter/early spring (we are in Arizona so that's early) so we'll actually renew our vows months before our actual 10yr anniversary.

We were thinking of doing it for our 10th anniversary also...but well..that came and went! lol. I think its a wonderful idea for everyone involved! What a beautiful thing to see in this day and age...to see a couple renew vows instead of head off to divorce court!

If it is cheesy, my dh and I must be cheesy twice! LOL We did it twice, 10th and 20th and he bought me a three stone diamond ring that represent-past-present-future. We didn't do ours in front of an audience on the 20th but we did on the 10th at the church. You don't have to do it in front of others. It is a re-commitment of your relationship to each other.

My hubby and I got married at the courthouse. We didn't do the formal thing because we were too impatient to get married.

I really want to renew our vows and have it in a church with a real wedding atmosphere so my parents and family could be there since none of them saw me get married the first time around.

I think its a wonderful and neat idea, DH and I talked about doing it for 25 wedding anv. which was in June we missed the boat. So maybe 30 I don't know.
But, I do think it's neat, don't worry what others think do what you all feel is best for you.

I think it is sweet for anyone who wants to do it. I have been to one and it was very nice. The couple did it right after church one Sunday after telling everyone what was about to happen and giving anyone who needed to leave a chance to go. It was for their 25th and their children were in it. I don't know if we will ever do that or not. I tell anyone that asks us that we probably won't because it "took" the first time. It has been almost 38 years so maybe for our 50th? Who knows? I wish you all the best and would love to see pictures later on. Beth

thanks girls, i think it will mean even more probably than the original, bc of all weve been through. katie, i dont think we will do rings, simply bc it is right bf christmas, the 18th, and we wont really have the money, so, unless we were to use our original rings, prob not, but i love the anniversary band idea, maybe for the 20th, i can get one, lol!

My dh gave me the three diamond ring and I bought him a ring that I had engraved on the inside.

Here is a link to some nice rings that are under $40.00, sterling silver and engraved.

My husband and I did after he came back from serving a year in Iraq. It was something we'd always wanted to do, as our wedding was quite small, and we'd been through so much that year apart. It just felt like a good time to recommit to each other. (Didn't fall on an anniversary or anything.)

I think it's sweet to say publicly, "I still choose you."

I do not think it is cheesy in the least.

My aunt and uncle renewed their vows and the service was beautiful. My parents talk about doing it but I don't know if they will or not.

My parents renewed theirs on their 10th anniversary. I remember being so proud to have parents that were still together and still in love.

My husband and I also married at the courthouse with only his cousin and my best friend present. I always wanted a church wedding. We have talked of renewing our vowels on our 15th anniversary, which is next June. It will be in the church that we attend now. It is also where our first date took place.

Hubby and I are going to do it. I had wanted to do it at 5 years because he advanced and is in a new uniform but he was overseas. :( Now I want to do it at 10 years. I have my dream version and the reality version of how I would like it done. I know I say 'I' alot but he wants me to have it the way I want it since we had a quick wedding, no honeymoom and I was 6 months along. Who knows maybe he'd get lucky and advance again when we finally renew.
