How do you keep from chipping glass mixing bowls?

I have several glass mixing bowls which I like using, however the edges are getting chipped. The most compact way to store them is inside each other, but they bump when removing a bowl. Any suggestions?

hmmm... do you put them in the dishwasher?

I use glass mixing bowls (Pyrex) on a daily basis and have never had them chip. Mine are from the 60s, too. But, I hand wash all dishes.

Maybe you could place old dishtowels or even a paper towel in between the bowls when storing. perhaps it would soften the bumping?

Consider putting bubble wrap in the bowl before nesting them.

I have seen people use pieces of cloth between each bowl.

I do not use anything in mine. Chipping glass bowls hasn't been a problem for me.

I let my wife do all the cooking, washing up, and putting away. ;)

(It was a joke - really!)

We have Pyrex bowls that are 20 years old that are not chipped and we don't do anything fancy to them. You could try cheapy dollar store shelf liner foam and cut squares to put in between them to cushion them. That's what I use between my stoneware baking stuff from Pampered Chef.

Steve, that is my husbands opinion also. If we were wealthy, I'd hire a cook. :D

Looked at the bowls with chips, and they are all "Anchor Ovenware" bowls. None of my my Pyrex mixing bowls are chipped - just my 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup. Guess I need to replace the chipped ones. (Maybe this weekend while I'm at the beach with some friends.) The chips probably make them weaker and more prone to chip more.

I have 1 metal mixing bowl. I think I bought it at the Corningware Outlet store, so it wasn't a cheap brand. It has brown spots on it that don't wash off. Not sure what happened there.

I know they didn't chip in the dishwasher. It was from bumping against the other bowls and measuring cups. Some things are worth paying a little extra.

My kids dropped one of my favorite bowls the other day. PLAYING AROUND, GRRRRR!!! It broke in two decent-size chunks, and we glued them back in. I didn't want to give up that bowl!
