For those of who use CLE for most/all of your curriculum, can you please tell me how you schedule your day? I use it for language arts with my 2 boys (6 years old) and really like it. But it does seem to take a bit longer than other curriculum I use (math u see and rod and staff). I have read on other posts that this is a common issue for most so was wondering how it is dealt with as I am toying with the idea of going with it or maybe with Rod and Staff full time next year.
I use them for language arts and reading as well. I just have my girls finish the lesson even if it takes longer than an hour. I still us it but it does take longer... I just tell my girls that they are doing spelling with language, so it will take longer.
Thanks much for the reply. Really liked your blog. We are also from Tx. I am kicking around full timing with CLE or maybe Rod and Staff and was just trying to imagine how a full day would look with 2 energetic boys would look. The boys do well with the CLE, just tends to take a little longer than what 2 fidgety 6 year olds want it to take sometimes. lol.
It's true - with the CLE LA it seems a bit longer, because there's the grammar stuff, then the spelling stuff, then the handwriting stuff, all in one lesson. What I have done is to take a break after the grammar stuff, come back to the spelling and handwriting later, or take a break between each thing if needed. When working independently, the kids have to read every instruction and item for themselves, which can also take a bit longer than if you're reading everything for them (like with R&S - I've used and love both for different kids at different times). For age 6, I'd stick with Reading, LA, and Math, and do explorations and read-alouds and videos and whatever else for science and history topics.
Thanks for the great advice, Lindina. Right now, math, reading, LA via CLE, and Bible are all we are doing, but will soon be adding Science via ACSI Purposeful Design and History via History for Little Pilgrims. I plan on just reading bot of those to them like stories for now. I was thinking though about going full time to CLE for the next year, but think (based on the feedback I've received via this message board and The Homeschool Lounge and based on my experience with the boys being very active boys who like to move A LOT--lol), I'll probably skip going full time with CLE until they are a bit more older. I really like the looks of it and Rod and Staff both. Will try for now though to stick with curriculum that keeps them moving. Thanks again for the direction. Good advice.
