In searching for books to help my teenage niece start looking critically at ideas and cultural norms that she has blindly accepted, I learned about How to be your own selfish pig and other ways you've been brainwashed by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay. My library didn't have it, but I asked a volunteer in our church's library about it. She'd never heard of it, but that very week, someone donated it! It is exactly what I was looking for. Now, I am looking for a study guide. Summit Ministries has a 36-week video course that uses Selfish Pig as the main text. I'm not interested in adding THAT much work to our schooling. I'd rather have something with questions the help her to start thinking through some of the ideas. Have you used this book? If so, how did you use it? Is anyone aware of a study guide that is a little less time consuming than the full course by Summit?
$125 for the homeschool version $395 for the school version I understand that the difference is the homeschool version comes with a CD that can be played on the computer only while the school version has a DVD that can be played on a DVD player and TV for a larger group. www.summit.org is the site for purchase. It's under middle school curriculum. Here's a review... http://www.grovepublishing.com/worldview/lightbearers.htm#homeschool_publisher . It looks great... I just don't have that much time to commit to it; I wasn't a condensed version!
