I think I would still tell the school that they will need to call back after x-o'clock, and speak with your husband. If they try to discuss it with you, just keep explaining that they need to discuss it with him. Or you will take a message for him, and he'll get back with them.

    I WON, I WON!!!!!!

Ok I'm scared to death though... Garrett wants an Engineering degree (Electronics Engineering Technology to be exact.. or as of right now that is his plan), and he is not a fan of academics, and well he is a boy and a teen and hates to put effort into anything.

Sommer, maybe if you give Garrett some control over some of his subjects (especially ones that might interest him), it would help some? I think you are more a more interest-led school anyway, right? All I can say is to be firm with him. Let him know right from the beginning what the expectations are, and stick to them! Maybe try an if-then chart with him helping choose the consequences (within reason, of course!). Then, stick to it. Don't raise your voice or argue, just point it out and stick to it.

Anyway---just some thoughts that came to mind. I hope you have an awesome year and that Garrett is willing to make this work. Congrats on hubby coming around to your side!

I did let him pick what branch of social studies he wanted to study (US) and I picked what we would use (History of Us with the Hewitt Syllabus and Map Trek maps, stretched over 2 years) and what he wanted for science (Physical.. using Prentice Hall Science Explorer with the lab and discovery DVDs) because I wanted to use what we had on hand.

I have made him a list of what I want to see done in a week as a minimum, he has to put it into days himself and get it done. I have also made a rule of no fun things TV, video games, etc for him from 7am to noon. Fridays may be pretty crappy for him if he doesnt' have all of his work done.... he will be working until he finishes it even if it means he is still working at 6am Saturday because he slacked all week.
