Are you in the path of the hurricane? How are you being affected by it? It's supposed to continue up the east coast and then hit us sometime in the early hours of Monday morning but we're forecasted to be drenched with heavy rain starting tonight and all day tomorrow (the rain has just started actually). Not quite sure what to think of all that is on its way... can't say that we're accustomed to a whole lot around here but the path looks like we're going to have a nasty couple days. Where ever you are, be safe
We are in the path as well. Nothing going on here yet, supposed to start raining tonight. Dh hung some plywood on my barn, and I'll go up and lock the critters inside for safety. Otherwise... not much here. Mostly, we are going to get rain and some gusts. We've seen worse gusts here without hurricanes, though, so nothing I'm too concerned about. I think.. mostly dh and I are just incredulously watching the news. The weather guys (2 different stations) keep saying it is going to be a tropical storm or less. But meanwhile... shelters are opening all over the place and the governor declared a state of emergency (yesterday actually). Huge disconnect there, so not sure if the weather guys are playing it cool or people are going into panic mode. Adding: coastal flooding WILL be an issue here, though. Storm hits AND astronomical high tides as well, so I expect there will be significant damage there.
They're saying the same for here as well... it all depends on whether it hits when it's high tide or not. If so, disaster in the making. I actually thought about you when I posted this because I know you aren't too far from where I am... be safe
I have some freinds and family who are down in VA, Philly and NYC. I am a little concerned about my Aunt who lives on the Ct & RI border. Her house is old and in need of repairs already. Right now in WNY we are just getting some wind but I know to the east they are going to get hit with the rain.
ROFL... saw this from somoene on facebook... had to share it (for a good laugh) The rain here is absolutely unbelievable... save on power consumption by going outside for a shower/drenching and to wash the clothes you're wearing because within 5 minutes, you'll be dripping wet.
Irene has been and gone (well, leaving). It wasn't as bad as we were expecting it to be but lots of people did lose power. My car has lots of leaves on it but that isn't the end of the world. As far as I know, there aren't any reports of people being hurt around here so that's something for which to be thankful for. It's supposed to be windy for some time today but the worst of Irene has passed. Meghan, hope you're safe
We lost power for only 12 hours, but relatives southeast of us lost power about 5 or 6 pm Sat and don't expect it any time soon. They have trees down and are back in the woods with above ground power lines down their road. They're without power or internet and have a tree down on their driveway and another one stuck halfway down, so I tried to see if there was any web news from their local TV station -- the weather guy says they're anticipating a quiet week -- "after an earthquake and Hurricane Irene, how could it not be"
Our storm was.. anticlimatic at best. I think mostly we sort of sat around waiting for it to get BAD. It didn't. Sure it rained, sure we got hit with some gusts. But no biggie, honestly. A drive into town 20mins away had a total down tree count of 4. The worst for us was the power outage. Ours went out about 11:30am on Sunday and just came on about 15mins ago. ARG. We managed, but no water/no lights/no hot cups of tea Our elec co says that there were a 210,000 people without power at one point. I think our coastline got hit worse than we did, though. Hope everyone's relatives are safe and sound!
