I am watching a few kiddos after school for friends. They were to ride the bus to the school beside my house and then I pick them up... well, I go to the pick up spot and am waiting.. I get a call from one mom saying that the School would not put her son on the bus, and asked if I could pick him up. The other mother had already called me and told me she was called and told that her daughter would not be allowed on the bus.. so her mom was picking her up.. but get this.. while I am waiting in a very long car line at the school.. the grandmother for the girl calls me and says they put the little girl on the BUS! One is on the bus and other is waiting at the school...

I get to the school and I tell the principal that they need to get their act together one on the bus and the other not! Parents calling me worrying about there kids... crazy! I wanted to tell her that this is one small reason of a very long list on why we homeschool our kids! (I refrained! but I wish I would have told her that!)

My goodness, hope none of those girls were terrified over it!

It seems every year around here at least one kid is put on the wrong bus, last year it was almost 8pm till they found a misplaced kindergartener on his first day! They had gotten out of school 5 hours before that!

sounds like my nephews first day of school last week!

He is blind, and my mom is blind! My mom is raising him. My step father was taking their other adopted child to school (a different one) because apparently the bus was not going to pick her up. So he comes in the house after dropping her off and says Hunter, your bus is here! Go get on the bus. My mom freaks, cause she says he already left on a bus!

Any way long story short, some how he made it to the right school on the wrong bus! lol And that was hours of my mom calling both schools trying to find out what happened to him.

One of the dads in our Boy Scout Troop is a middle school principal ("middle school" being 5th and 6th grade here). He was late to Scouts last Monday because he couldn't leave work until all the "lost-on-the-bus" kids were found. He was still in his office at 7 pm. 7 PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said that as of 5 pm there "were only 35 kids" missing.

Columbus schools were actually short about 25 bus drivers the first day of school!!! I guess they were working with some private bus place, and that felt through. So it meant that some of the elementary kids had up to a half-hour wait in the AM. But they said that they still wanted ALL elementary kids at the bus stop at the assigned time, because no one knew which ones would be late (or at least they weren't saying!). So how disruptive is it for the teacher the first day of school to have half the class show up that late?

Then they said that some of the high school kids would be up to two hours late in being picked up at the school that afternoon to get home. I sure hope none of them had jobs!!! Of course, they were going to have the computer room and gym open for them until the buses got there....

And, to top it off, they said the situation probably won't be settled until the end of September!

When I was in K, the school messed up big time. The day before, my mom sent a letter to the school that I was to go to a her friends house, so I was to be put on a different bus. Plans changed. The school said they pulled my rerouting slip. The next day, after school, I was put on the different bus. I had no idea why or where I was going. So I got off the bus, walked to my mom's friend's house. She tried to call my mom, but my parents were driving all over, along with police and neighbors, looking for me. :? Finally, my dad decided to check and see if the school sent me to the friend's house. There I was, eating tacos and drinking root beer. All the while, my mom was in tears, police were searching for me, and I had no idea what was going on.

Those sort of things will happen! My dss (who lived with us) came out of school late one day. He had just finished on Safety Patrol. A little kindergarten girl was standing there, all by herself. She lived just up from us, and often walked to school with the group from our street. Jason told her he would walk her home. No, she was told Daddy would pick her up, and she had to wait for Daddy. So on the way home, Jason stopped at her house. It turned out there was miscommunication between the parents. Mom got busy and forgot to tell Dad to get her. Dad just assumed Mom had her, and had taken her wherever. So when Jason told Dad that his daughter was at school all upset waiting for Daddy, Daddy took right off to get her. Later that evening, Mom showed up at our door, thanking Jason for watching out for her daughter.

I . Feel bad for all the kids that this happens to. The local school cute the budget in the transportation department so they could get another pre school teacher.. therefore they changed the rules and did not tell parents.

I just saw on the news last week about a school system's bus routes being completely inadequate for the first few days of school. The city and county school systems merged, but the bus routes weren't worked out between the two systems. Kids waited at bus stops and were never picked up. Some bus stops changed and parents weren't notified. Parents were furious!

The district where we lived in MO had so few bussed that if you lived 3 miles or less from the school, you were a "walker." Only kids who lived on the very edges of the high school districts were bussed. The elementary districts were mostly less than a 3 mile radius, so nearly all elementary kids were walkers.

On the upside, it was rare for a kid to end up on the wrong bus. lol
