I ordered my curriculum today! I have been looking at stuff ever since we knew for sure that our church school would not be open next year. Pretty early on in the process I found Trail Guide to Learning and have been reading everything I could find about it. It looks like a good fit or our family, but I was still putting off ordering to make sure I didn't change my mind. Well, today I placed the order. My boys will be 3rd and 6th grade and will be doing Trail Guide to Learning: Paths of Exploration together. I'm really excited about this. I think it will be a lot of fun. It includes all subjects but math. My 3rd grader will be doing BJU math 3 (already have the teacher's edition from when the older boy used it so just need a new workbook). The 6th grader will be doing Teaching Textbooks 7. We have never used TT, but I think it will be a good fit for him.
We started last week with Trail Guide to Learning: POE too. My daughter is 8, 3rd grade. So far we like the lessons. The only thing is that my daughter does not like reading just a few pages. She wants to read the books til we are finished. I have to admit, I agree with her. I don't like reading and then having to wait to finish a chapter.
I am a little worried that the breaks in the reading will annoy us, too. I have never used a package curriculum before so this will be a new experience. I can hardly wait to have it in hand and be able to start planning. For two years now my kids have been attending a private Christian school. Everything for this year is costing less than ONE MONTH tuition at the school. Plus I get to have my kids home and have fun learning with them.
I hope that you will be as happy with your choices as we were. My twins did Trail Guide to Learning: Paths of Exploration last year for 4th grade, and also used Teaching Textbooks for math. I would rate last year our best homeschool year yet. We will continue to use Trail Guide to Learning in the fall with Paths of Settlement. They also will use Teaching Textbooks again. And yes, there were many times when we did not stop the readers or read alouds where we were supposed to because we were all so interested in them.
Awesome! I am really hoping to love it and enjoy hearing from others who are using Trail Guide successfully.
