and it's SO frustrating. The way we filed (religious exemption) means we are NOT required by law to inform the state of ANYTHING. No attendance records, testing..noting. Which is AWESOME. However, because we are military...I chose a curriculum that WILL keep track of their education...send out report cards etc., just incase we move to a state that DOES require all that info (this is the only state allows this type of filing...some are more relaxed some more strict)...I've even gone through and made a "calendar" to equal the 180 days...955 hours of education...just to keep in our records incase we don't actually retire in TX (I REALLY WANT TX)...I guess...I wish..we started this when my oldest was still in elementary school...so I could get my feet under me...I don't' know how to keep a grade book...how I want to grade their work....i hate not knowing! lol..I feel busy..but I don't' feel like i'm gaining any real ground. :|

Just go by the stare you're currently in. If you move to a different state with stricter documentation requirements, you'll start complying with that THEN. Not now. If you're using a program that keeps track of grades for you, then do only what THEY require. There's absolutely no need to overstress over what MIGHT be needed IF. Ask your program how THEY want you to keep grades, then just follow their guidelines. AND RELAX! You've got this!

My children were at a private school for a short while that only counted the grades on tests. You could do that. It would be easier and less to keep track of.

Sorry, I agree with only doing what your current state requires. Plus, even if you move suddenly, don't you usually have 6 months to get in compliance with the new state? And won't you have some sort of advance notice of the move anyway?

I do not worry about grades until middle school and then I slowly implement them. Grades are not really important till high school.

If you have to move normally the requirements start from the day you arrive in the state. So if you move to a state that requires so many hours you should be able to pro-rate it from the day you move in. If the state requires paperwork (like NYS) you would just fill it out starting when you move there.

I really would not put too much pressure on yourself about keeping track of everything, just do what is required where you are at.

Maybe the army isn't required to give you any "real" notice...you could get orders and be gone in under a month...and sometimes you get orders four months in advanced...just depends on what your soldier does and where they need him.

I think the way I'm going to grade is going to be different from public school...our system is using a 6 point scale (i hate that) ...I'm not going to hold to the rule of " do it once and whatever you get is your grade cuz we're moving on!" motto...you make less than a B (all three of them are a/b honor and have always been in public school)..then we review...redo...until you get it. We have plenty of time...and that's the point...to take the time to get what you don't get!

I should mention...the system they were in before we began homeschooling was a 7 point scale and they still made A/B honor roll...so I KNOW they are capable of meeting the standards ;-)

I think a 7-point scale is good. Mine is 100-94, 93-88, 87-80, and anything below 80 is a do-over. Been using that one since I was hs'ing DS in the early 90's. I have always made my kids report cards, but I never use letter grades, number grades only.

    Regional language is so weird.

We say doggie paddling. I keep reading peddling and wonder why you're selling dogs. LOL!

I'm sure both are right...cause dogs do kinda....kick like they're peddling a bike when they swim. Just one of those weird linguistic variances, I reckon.

Heck, I dunno....just thought it was funny. :p

"psst...hey, Leetle Girl....how much for the Schnauzer?" LOL! (Yep, I'm WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too easily amused)

    LOL!
