I was so happy yesterday. I got my first shipment from Christian Books. It had MOH (book and CD), which I LOVE, my time line figures, SOS Language Arts, Saxon math, and Apologia science. I have a lot more comming, this is just the first shipment of several. I am so excited!

MOH was really much more impressive than I expected. It is a THICK book, I did not expect a book that thick to come in. I stayed up late and read some of it and really like it so far. I cant wait to see what SOTW looks like, I wonder if it will be as good as MOH?

Saxon math also was impressive. I read though some of it and I am glad I switched to it. I have another math program comming for my YS called, Memorize in Minutes, The Times Tables. http://www.amazon.com/Memorize-Minu...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218030511&sr=8-1

It looked really fun and I think it will go well with Saxon. I got it because I remember how hard it was to memorize my times tables when I was a kid and I didnt want to see my son go through the same thing. Its really cute. It uses cute pictures and sayings to memorize the times tables. I saw a couple of the cards and I was hooked. One said Skate x Skate = Sticky floor (for 8x8=64) and showed two people in skates stuck to the floor. It looked really cute and funny, and my sons reaction was really positive. He laughed and still remembers Skate x Skate= Sticky floor lol. I cant wait for it to come in.

I still have to set up SOS Language Arts but hopefully he will like it. I was not really impressed with apologia science (astronomy). I dont think that book will last for a whole year and will probably have to buy at least, a second one to last the year.

I have a question about MOH if anyone knows. Has anyone done notebooking pages with MOH? Is there any good sites with notebooking pages to go with MOH? Free would be best because I just spent a bunch of money on books already and I still have to buy the reading books for history. I cant afford a lot more.

    Thanks so much

Were doing both SOTW and MOH together but after seeing MOH I think this is going to be much harder than I thought LOL! I cant wait to see SOTW when it comes in, I just got the email that its been shipped too! Its like Christmas for me around here for me, I love curriculum buying season. This year is going to be especially good because I am dropping the Life Pacs (except 1 for my older son) and going with all new curriculum.

I have a lot of planning to do over the next couple weeks, I hope I can get it together before Sept 1 (when we start back up again).

My Christmas is over, I already got all the books for next year! It's sooo fun getting the curriculum!

    Glad you're having a fun time! :)

The best thing, imho, about SOTW is the Activity Guide! LOVE it!

We are using history Odessey. It uses SOTW , A childs history of the world and a usborne internet linked history encyclopedia as it's main reference books.
I got notebooking pages from currclick. History Scribe so far we are really enjoying everything.

I am feeling a bit jealous. By now we would have already ordered the boys curriculum and it would already have arrived. I kinda feel antsy because I'm not schooling the boys this year since they graduated.
Its like what do I do now?

I am glad you got all of your books already. Mine are still comming in the mail, I cant wait until I get them all. I got another one yesterday called "Social Skills Activities for Special Children." Its not exactly what I wanted but I think I can tweak it a little and make it fit into next year. It is more for special needs kids in PS but I think I can make most of it work for us.

It goes over things like making friends, and what to say (or what not to say) but it does it in a PS setting. I will have to somehow teach it for a HS setting. Some things we wont need like how to walk down the hall and behave yourself, but I think I can modify most of it to fit.

We needed social skills and life skills books because both of my boys that I am hsing, are special needs. One has ADHD, and the other is mentally disabled. I really had a hard time picking books for my mentally disabled son, and the ones I got were EXPENSIVE! They really price books for special needs kids through the roof. One math book was 49 dollars and that was just the 1st one in a series of 3.

Needless to say, I blew the budget in a big way but its worth it. As long as they get everything they need I am happy. I am really excited about next year and a bit nervous. I really need to get myself organized once all these books come in. Its going to be a lot harder than the Life Pacs but I think I did the right thing by switching.

    wyomom,

This is going to sound kind of stupid but for some reason I am curclick dumb (or my computer is lol). I try and try to get their free stuff and it never works. I am afraid to buy something from there because I am afraid I wont be able to get it to download. I thought it was just this computer so I tried it again with one of the new laptops. It still did not work and I dont know why.

Its probably something I am doing wrong, I am computer unsavvy. I am going to make a goal for this year, for mom to figure out curclick lol. I even thought about driving up to where curclick is located (the company) since they are about an hour away from where I live. Maybe I could talk them into selling me some stuff on CDs lol?

Thankfully someone was nice enough to help me out with some notebooking pages otherwise I dont know what I would do.

I kind of envy you. You have already successfully hs'ed your kids, done a wonderful job, and now get to see the fruits of your labor. You have reached the goal that the rest of us are still striving for. You should be applauded for a job well done.

I got something in the email about the sacrifice we make to hs our kids. It was a wonderful, inspiring, email. You should be proud that you made such a sacrifice to hs your kids for all of those years, something that most people would not even attempt.

Yes Katie, A job well-done! You see your boys being successful in what you do, and can know you led them in the right direction!

As great an accomplishment as that is, and as thrilled as I will be for their accomplishments, I am kind of dreading that day! I will be in the same SPOT you are: What do I do now??! It's kind of bitter-sweet!

Let us know how things go for you and what you do decide to do!

Thank you! When I feel sad about them graduating I just look at them and see what fine young men they have grown into and that just fills my heart with joy.

I would LOVE to go back to work. Issue though being my asthma sensitivity and being around the public. Until my asthma calms down I don't think any employer is going to tolerate me having asthma attacks because someone walked in smelling like perfume or cigarette smoke. I thought it would have leveled out by now, but it hasn't and they don't have a miracle drug that takes it all away. kwim?

There is a lady where my ds works that has major allergies and has signs posted not to come near her desk with perfume on or even hairspray!

Another lady there has diabetes, and has just suddenly gone into a diabetic....well, I don't know what you call it. She passes out and isn't breathing well. They've had to call 911 at least 5 times in the last 3 or 4 years!

It CAN work, as long as the employer knows ahead of time, and things are worked out to accomodate it.

    What about working from home?

Best wishes to you! I have a few more years to go yet, so I am trying not to concern myself too much. But I am already praying that God will lead me in a way that when I get to that point things will be clear in what direction I should go!

Katie, I will be praying that for you too! That God will guide you in the direction He would like for you to go, and that you will find something that will fulfill YOUR needs as well!

I got two more in the mail. Art for Kids; Drawing and Art in Story. Art for Kids isnt a bad book although I do wish it had a little more heft to it. I think it is a good beginning drawing program but not so much for older kids who are more experienced in Art.

The one I really LOVED was Art in Story! Its the perfect book for this year for teaching art history. It goes from cave paintings to computer art and looks pretty complete.

I love the way the book is layed out too. First it tells a story about the art/artist, viewing the art, journal writing, an activity, book lists for adults, one for kids, links, some curriculum connections, and even some lists of audio visual materials for the piece of art. I think it will be perfect for this year and actually, for several years. I am glad I found this book.

Hopefully more will come in today. I am still waiting on about 13 books. They are slowly comming in. Everyday its like Christmas around here lol.
