My kids are long done homeschooling, but I've been tutoring other people's kids since then. It's been a long time since I checked in on this board!

I've currently got an 8 year old boy, who needs help with reading comprehension. He's shown some interest in history, and I've still got our old books around, so I can do some units with him.

I'm drawing a blank, though, on activities to go with his first lesson.

What I need is something hands-on that would pair up with the traditional scientific origins of the Earth (coalescing around the sun from scattered rocks and dust, along with the other planets). Ideally, it would be something he could complete in about 20 minutes.

He really doesn't enjoy drawing! But he sure does like to eat. :D

    Any ideas?

put some particles and grit in a water bottle then spin it on the table or floor a bunch. Maybe the centrepital force will bring it together. A smaller bottle might even be better.

That sounds fun, thanks! I'll try it.

My husband also suggested we could try something related to the planets, and I found this: http://thecraftyclassroom.com/CraftSpaceRingedplanet.html
