I am disturbed that if a thread has the least little amount of debate or difference in opinions it gets closed. I have never been on a message board that the threads get closed so quickly. I could see if it was vulgar or hateful. But people challenging other people with different beliefs/ thoughts just broadens and challenges us to know what and why we believe things.

What's been closed? I think that happens very rarely here.

Please take this very tongue in cheek - you obviously haven't been over the Family Life Forums...they get shut down and deleted ALL the time for no reason!

I didn't see what got shut down. So I can't speak from experience here. I've found that they seem to have a good reason if they DO get rid or close something.

I won't go looking, I don't think it would do any good anyway!

In the words of my old Young Life leader - "Edify, STUPID" yes...oxymoron....that's what made it so funny!!!

I am curious what/when a thread got shut down? Did I miss something good??? ;)

Seriously, I haven't seen anything shut down very ofter here. Maybe 2 times or so. And that has been over a couple of years. One was VERY heated and one was a...oh shoot, what's it called???.......someone (a kid at that) that came to cause trouble. hmmmm...what is that called????

The one of the Golden Compass got shut down. I was a little surprised because I though that on the last page JenniferErix and I were just starting to build an interesting conversation.

Ah!!! That explains why I wasn't aware! I've no interest at all in the movie, and so haven't been following the conversation!

hmmmmmmm I missed something but then again I am on of the shy ones, beside my talking buddy so we don't get to see many close here.

I don't know they even close that one. But, I feel when they are closed a board it needs to be. There aren't many that get close on here. But, we all seem to agree sometimes it's for the best..
Everyone here loves and care for everyone I don't think closing a board here or there is going to make a different. I think it helps save somes hurtful feelings from time to time..

Ya know as the modorator, I listen to peoples request to close a thread. I have chosen to close threads on my own too. But it really doesn't happen very often.

Jillrn: I hope that you still have a love for the homeschoolspot, but sometimes things to get to a point where there isn't much else to be said in a certian thread.

There was another thread closed down just in the last week or so. But I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

I agree that the Gold Compass thread was just getting to be a decent, interesting conversation.

It does make me uneasy that a conversation that was mildly controversial and never took a nasty turn (a little sulky, but not nasty) would be shut down. Especially at the point it was.

I agree with what the OP is saying totally! There have been a couple of times when things are posted in the "Christian Issues" area and if someone doesn't agree with what Christians are saying they complain and get it shut down which I personally think is crap. I just haven't said anything about it until now because I am agreeing with the OP. To me that is like censoring our religious beliefs. But it is okay for others to bash what we say.

    I just don't get it.

I feel personally myself that some of these interesting debates turn into ugly arguements a lot of times or hurt feelings. The ops usually nip it fast before it gets started which is ok for me.

I come here to learn and chat about different topics on homeschooling not my religious or politcal beliefs. I am a Christian woman/Repulican myself but I dont push it on anyone else nor do I hide what I am.

If I come here and see two women arguing over a topic it makes me depressed. If I want to hear someone debating I just grab one of my 5 sisters and argue with them hahaha. I dont need it here.

I am glad the ops keep on top of things here makes it pleasant. Maybe I want a bed of roses when I come here but real life is tough enough.

Thanks for all the hard work you OPS do I know its not an easy task deciding what should stay and what should go

    Amen and well said.

I think some people come here write something to start something, its hard to believe sometimes and that is where the mess starts

I agree with Ranchermom if I want to have a agrugment I just need to call my family they would love to help m with that. guess you aren't alone Ranchermom I want a bed of roses too.

Aball, just remember I think you are doing a super job and you can't please everyone all the time...

I don't have issues with anything here. I guess I look at it like this...

This is a public forum, with lots of topics. Not all of these topics are of interest to me, so I don't read them. If I don't read them, I don't know there is a debate going on! LOL If I see a topic that looks interesting to me, I open it and sometimes I get involved in that topic, sometimes I don't. I get what I want out of this forum because I make personal choices of what to enter into and what not to enter into. I would never ask someone to delete a certain topic becasue *I* am not interested in it. I know there are plenty of other people who ARE interested and that is good for them to be a part of.

Amy.....you do a great job of moderating all of us chatty women and I am perfectly happy with the way things are handled here! ;)

I agree that Amy does a great job. I'm sure there are some of us that would wish she would pull things the minute there's any difference of opinion, and others who wish she would let us "fight it out". It's hard to balance between the two, and Amy is to be commended for her willingness to do so.

Personally, I am blessed in that I really don't have family to "fight" with! When I come here, I want to exchange ideas. Some of you I agree with a lot, others not very much. But regardless, I feel debate is healthy. It either helps me to cement my views, or it presents arguments I'm not familiar with and helps me to have a more balanced view. Either is a good thing. I believe that most of the ladies here, (dare I say all?) try very hard to be respectful of others' opinions. I can't think of ANYONE who has an attitude of "my way or else".

One suggestion I would make to Amy. I don't know how practical it is, so you decide what to do with it. Sometimes an discussion is going on, mostly between two people. But others, reading it, are getting bothered by it and complain. In such instances, when you get a complaint, you might check with the main people in the discussion. If they don't feel there is animosity, perhaps the problem is with the one complaining. In which case, it may be best if the person complaining simply choses not to follow that thread any longer.
