Several years ago, I was traveling the globe with my work. Each week, I was in a different country, and my poor patient wife was left holding the fort with our six children (with two being homeschooled at the time). She really prayed for someone whom she could get to know as a close friend. Soon after, a new family moved to our church who lived no more than two miles from our house. The wife and my wife just clicked, started meeting in each other's homes, and became very close friends. It was a wonderful answer to prayer. Our God really does know what we want before we ask, but it's not always easy to remember that.

As for wanting to know God's will when it comes to major decisions, my understanding of this has changed through the years. For example, we have good friends who are evangelists in Canada, and the husband seeks always to find and be in God's will. He is always seeking 'the' right door when it comes to making decisions. While I admire this friend very much, I disagree with his assumption that there is only one right door. I believe that there are always multiple doors, and one of the joys of the Christian life is that God grants us the opportunity to choose. Even when we choose a door for the wrong reasons, he seems to have a habit of turning things around so it was the right door after all. Of course, that's not always obvious until years after the fact - which doesn't make our walk easy at the time.
