I went to my first educational store yesterday, and holy moly, I could do some damage in there! I was in heaven! It was sooooooooooo hard but I didn't buy anything. DH kept telling me that I needed to wait until we started school to see what I really need, and he's right, but I wanted it all! So many organizers, charts, banners, maps...I need them, LOL!

I am still scared to start this process, but getting more and more excited everyday.

I took the first step and sent the letter to the school, thanks to the Texas Homeschool Coalition website.

Now to get moved and unpacked in Louisiana!

Oh, and sorry for rambling :) I don't know anybody that homeschools and my entire family thinks I am nuts, so they don't understand my excitement at all.

Aren't those stores fun? I told my dh that I'm not allowed to go into one of those stores without him, cuz I want everything, too. LOL

Yep I have to confess that I too, am a total curriculum junkie. I love lists, and charts, teachers books, workbooks, whole packages, all of it....I am so sad, lol. The biggest problem is finding enough time to do it all!!!

My obsession with teacher's stuff is half the reason I had to set up a classroom. lol. My kitchen was overrun with posters, maps, charts, etc.

If you are moving to Louisiana, you might have to register with the state somehow.

I love our education store. Handsome always asks that I not go overboard. Well, when he goes with me, he is the one who goes overboard! LOL

I love education stores too! I am a total curriculum junkie too! I have a BAD habit of wanting to buy something new when we're already using something else. An example...I saw huge workbooks at Sams on Presidents and states and instantly bought two of them. Well, I forgot that we're using SOTW so we're going chronologically and wont even talk about presidents for a while but it would still be great to use anyway.
Found a great social studies school book on communities for grade 2 on ebay for $2.00 and had to have it!
I said my downfall though would be to get a credit card to a teachers store! I'd be in debt forever! haha!

You mean with Louisiana? If you do, I know I'll have to do that, just have to figure out what. But their compulsory age is 7 and my DD is only 6, so I have a little bit of room.

You do have to register with the state in Louisiana. I am doing the private school option and it is really simple. You just have to send a letter to the schoolboard once a year registering your school. There is the home study option which is a little more involved, but I have never done that. You do have a little while before you have to worry about it. I love curriculum, books, art supplies, etc. Everyone laughs at me because of it. They think I'm crazy.

Freddy is as bad as I am to want everything we see. When we go to the homeschool curriculum fair we have to watch each other.

Is there a form I need to fill out, or just send the letter stating we are a private school?

I guess we can all be crazy together!

I love all the extras for the walls and stuff. Somedays I almost wished I did go the teacher route instead of the medical route. I'd have the most decked out classroom. :)
Someone here says she puts the posters into frames and puts them on the wall. I plan to do that with some and also I have a clear plastic table cloth and put posters under it.

Thank goodness the "teacher" store is a bit of a drive from here. I try to go there only when I am looking for something specific. DH is just as bad about buying stuff there as I am so when I do go I try not to have him with me.

My dh just goes and finds a seat and lets me do what I want. I'm pretty reasonable about spending. I am mostly looking at the ideas anyway. But when I go to the Dollar Tree I have to set myself a limit before I go in, because there is soooo much to get for only a dollar!! I got some stamps today for messy papers...I have all the "way to go" and encourging stamps I needed a couple for "gentle" correction on messy papers or not following directions. Dollar Tree Rocks!!!
