    HELP!

So, my student is a 16 year old boy that has not been in church or Sunday school and just has absolutely no education in the regard of the Bible. He did go to a Lutheran private school very early on in lower grade school. So he kinda knows the basic basic "stories".

I'm working through CLASS so I've been assigned the Ephesians Manual published by Presbyterian and Reformed Publishing. It's what CLASS considers the "remedial" Bible course.

However, I'm finding it hard to slug through for him. He just has little interest in it, for one. Secondly, it's almost too advanced for him in knowledge level. I mean it does break down the verses and explain them and all, but for someone that has little Bible knowledge, it's sorta just going in one ear and out the other. And it's referencing verses all over the Bible for back up in Ephesians and that just further loses him.

I may be able to switch to:
Studying God’s Word: Book H (Acts) Christian Liberty Press
The Book of Job Unfolded Christian Liberty Press
The Kingdom of God, 1st half (Genesis to Kings) Christian Schools International
The Kingdom of God, 2nd half (Kings to Malachi) Christian Schools International
The Life of Christ Christian Liberty Press
The Ministry of Christ (NT survey) Christian Schools International

    OR --
An Independent Bible Course of my own choosing that uses the Holy Bible for basis. However, we don't get the Bible credit on this one and we will have to make up that credit somewhere else with another class or elective of our choosing.

Would any of the courses above be any easier for him (I'm guessing not, but thought I'd throw it out there). Secondly, would you recommend I strike out on the Independent choice and just make up the credit elsewhere? This way I could find something more conducive to his needs. He is not a Christian, but that's not because he is opposed to it, he's just never been taught anything to begin any kind of Christian walk, you know?

So, if you've stuck with me this long, what are your thoughts??

Our whole family studies these booklets. You can order free print copies also. I encourage you to try them.

Have you considered doing a study of John and Romans? Or if he really is limited in his knowledge of God and the Bible, a study of the beginning (creation, the flood, etc.) would be appropriate.

Kelly, you might want to look at Christian Light Education's or Alpha Omega Lifepac's 6th grade Bible course. It's a total Bible survey, Genesis through Revelation. Then make up the other credit somewhere else.

There's also the very inexpensive Bible (OT and NT separately) courses that used to be used in the Dallas Public schools. Again, covers the whole Bible. It gives something to read daily, and questions to answer in a notebook. I think these were intended to be two separate semester courses back when they were used.

Or Positive Action for Christ also has a one-year Bible survey course (I haven't seen it, but it's supposed to be very good).

I just found a sample for Route 66 by Positive Action for Christ (here if anyone is interested) and I think this just may be what we need! I think it's at a level he will be able to learn and grasp the points, but not at a level that will make him feel like it's for little kids (which was all I seemed to be finding on my own, for the "basics" I was searching for) PLUS -- a price I can afford right now.

I don't think he'll be too excited with how many lessons there are (70), but I feel like it's what he needs. I might pick and choose 2/3 of the lessons to pare it down a bit... We'll see. I don't want to pare it down too much, obviously.

Thank you, thank you, Lindina!! Answer to a small prayer with this! :D Secretly, I was happy to have the "requirement" by CLASS to do a Bible course because it gave me an excuse to spoonfeed him some Truth; so I was a bit bummed when it seemed so dry for what he needed. I don't expect him to instantly come to Christ this year, nor do I want him to feel that pressure in anyway -- but if seeds are planted while he thinks he's just learning the history of the Bible to get a credit, I will be happy.

And while I'm on the subject... I like Life of Christ as an option for next year. :D
