Hello everyone, I have 4 kids and a couple of years back 2 of my kids were home schooled. There were new charter schools that opened up here so I decided to try them out to give them a chance and use those tax dollars we pay into the school system. Our son had been struggling (or maybe not struggling enough) in his charter school and I decided to pull him this year and home school him again. The school he was going to went down hill last year and he was slipping through the cracks being ignored pretty much because he was a quieter student who did not give the teachers trouble. He was also beginning to get bullied (which I addressed immediately). He is also diagnosed ADD a couple of years ago, and he is now on medication to help him focus and stay on task. He is in the 8th grade so I went back to Teaching Textbooks Pre-Alg for math since he liked it before (right now I'm using the online samples lessons, while watching sales on Ebay). This time with homeschooling I decided to mix it up and he's also in a umbrella program at a Christian school where he takes Science and History. He also made the soccer practice team. He gets religion at school in his homeroom and they have chapel once a week which I really like. He is the only one of our four kids who is being home schooled and I'm happy I made the decision to homeschool him. I did not like the experience he had last school year at his school and wanted more and better for him this year. My two younger daughters are both in a charter school, which I am pleased with and our oldest is a senior at her Catholic high school. (However, I am keeping a close eye on them as well). After reading posts here, I think I will incorporate p.e. at home on the Wii. I'm hoping this will motivate my son to speed up his work as he often is slow if he forgets to use him timer. Wish us well, and thanks for being an excellent area of support and information! Mimi
Welcome back to homeschooling! We, too, had one child in school and one at home a few years ago. They are both home again now.
Welcome back! We did the one-in-and-one-out for a short time, as well. Although I LOVE having them both home, the extra alone time with my dd was very special. Despite all the fumbling I did as a newbie those are really golden memories.
