    Hello everyone!

After alot of research and prayer, I will begin homeschooling my 5 & 7 y/o daughter's in the fall. There are no support groups in my area and I am looking foreward to meeting some of you. We're enjoying our summer and I'm excited about hs in the fall. It will be an adjustment for my oldest. She enjoys ps but her grades have been slipping. I read a little about how some of you structure your day. That's one of my concerns...how much I should expect to be able to stick to a schedule. I'm somewhat organized and hope to not feel overwhelmed. After all, Kindergarten & 2nd grade should be relatively easy to teach, right?
Anyway, that's me! You all have a blessed day!

Welcome Angie! I'm Missy and I hs my 2 children. We've been homeschooling for three years. Glad you found this site. It's a wonderful resource especially for the new homeschooler.

Kindergarten, of course, is the easiest grade to teach in my opinion. I taught it for 6 yrs in ps. However, it can be frustrating if they are not ready for certain skills. Just follow your child's lead and try not to overdo it. Second grade is also easy, but a whole different set of skills. I worried as a teacher in ps that I would have to switch grades. I thought the higher grades (3rd-6th) would be a lot harder to teach. It's not. It's just your fear of the unknown that really makes it hard.

Welcome, Angie!!! I'm Jackie, in Central Ohio! I'm finishing up my 7th year with DD12 (BIRTHDAY TODAY!!!), DD10, and DS6. We've been HS'ing from the very first. I would suggest you check out the Christian Home Educators of Ohio (CHEO) site at www.cheohome.org for info on HS'ing here. Their conference is coming up, and it's NOT TO LATE to attend! (Though you may have to pay at the door!) I would STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU to go!!! This is especially important for a newbie who doesn't have lots of support!!! You will come away really energized!!! The only problem is that the Vendor's Hall can be a bit overwhelming your first time. Too many choices!!! The dates are June 22-24 in Columbus. You can get a one or two day pass. Thursday night is the Vendor Hall only. Where in Ohio are you? There's about four or five of us Buckeyes on here now!

    I'm a relative newbie, too!

I have twin 5 year old boys (6 In july) who will be first graders this august! (EEK!)
And I have a 3.5 year old daughter who is learning more everyday.

My Twins went through 100 days of Public School. That's more than I could stand. One twin nearly had the love of learning, and his sense of pride beaten out of him. We are still working on him.... Tisk Tisk....

We live in Texas on the outskirts of Houston. (But there is no open land out here, it's like Jersey from New York or something.... haha!) We live right across th street from my Hubbies work, so that we can see him all the time (Comes home for lunch!), We did this in change to him being gone for 18 hours a day...!

Anyway, where we live is a horrible school system! Just horrible. And I refuse to let my kids go to these schools. if I could afford private school I would consider it.

Anyway, we are learning as we go. I do not belong to any suport groups as I find them hard to find. Most, here in Texas are very Christian and you have to belong to thier church and so forth, they do not seem friendly to outsiders.

Anyway, just thought I would welcome you and let you know you are not alone and I just may be going through similar struggles that you may find yourself in, so write to me anytime!

Hi everybody. Thanks for the warm welcome. It's surprising how much of a difference some support makes. Just knowing that I'm not alone is calming. I don't know if I'll homeschool for life. I like to think that I will. My husband somewhat reluctantly agreed to our children's homeschooling. Honestly, I've wanted to since my first was born. There are many reasons I didn't, but recently realized that one of them was the negative feedback I received from almost everyone when I told people I was considering it. I really don't care what other people think because they aren't my children's parent. I am. I decided to stop allowing other people 'bully' me into keeping them in ps. So I've committed to do it for one year and play it by ear... I suspect we will love it.

My 5 yo is very advanced for her age and I'm excited to get to go at her own pace instead of her being bored in a regular Kindergarten class. I plan on teaching both of my dd's 2nd grade history, science and health. That way I'll only have to teach math & language arts separately. We'll see how it goes.

Once again, thanks for the warm welcome. You all are great.
