So what is the difference between the director and the commander? I know who the commander is, and I just assumed he was also the director. This year I thought there were sort of "co-commanders", but maybe one is the director..... Well, as a parent, all *I* know is that whoever is in charge is doing a WONDERFUL job, as is all those "under" him!

Faythe wants to bring friends, but her friends are all younger and didn't want to go into the Sparky class on their own. Faythe asked, and found out that they would be permitted to attend a T&T meeting with Faythe. (Considering I only expect them to come just that one week!) The one girl is a second grader, but one is only in first (late birthday!). One of those "co-commanders" told me most definately that for many children that age, it would be too scary to go into a group like that without knowing anyone. I was so glad to hear they were taking that into consideration, because I KNOW the one girl would never have come, and the second one might not. And it's SO HARD for homeschoolers to meet the "visitor" requirement!

Brooke, you made me remember how stiffly I stood up front the first time I had to announce awards! LOL! What a piece of plywood I was!

But that's also a good example of the personalities that ruined the Awana experience for me.
When I was a cubbie leader there came an evening where the other more dominant leader was out and our director was late.
The commander wanted me to go ahead and do awards, but I thought that would be disrespectful so I said no, we'll wait for the director.
After all the other club awards had been announced, including the teens and still no Cubbie director, I gave in and stood to give our awards.
At that second she bustles in, grabs the things from me, sighs, and turns around to give the awards.
I felt like an interloper, even though it was her that was late, and I tried to not stand in for her.
