Okay, so I've posted a few times, but here is my formal intro! I am a SAHM with two girls ages 6 and 2. We have been homeschooling from the beginning. We have hit a couple of rough patches:cry:, but things this week are going well! My biggest challenge lately is keeping the little one occupied. Fortunately she loves her room and she get "room" time daily for a bit of the morning. I turn on her music and put up the gate and she has a great time. I do this too if she gets too overwhelmed. She loves the time to not be bothered by anyone. My blog is in the signature line. Drop on by and check out what we have been up to!!
Welcome, Kris! Isn't "room time" GREAT!!! Do you also schedule a "Mommy Time"? If not, you need to!!! (Yeah, everyone ELSE has heard this a million times and has just turned me off, lol!) Mommy Time occurs for a half-hour. All children are in their rooms. Mine either naps (when younger) or reads a book of MY choice, usually something that goes along with history or science (when older). During this time, NO ONE bothers Mom unless they can actually see flames shooting around the room, lol. Mom IS NOT ALLOWED to do housework or lesson plans or anything that can be considered "work" in any way. Mom can read, have a cup of tea, anything that she finds relaxing. VERY important for Mom's sanity!!!
Welcome Kris, my name is Kris too. I have been homeschooling, going on 8 years and loving it. I love your blog. Boy, your girls have some the most bluest eyes so pretty. Jump right in and join us anytime.
Welcome Kris! Jackie, that sounds wonderful! Does it count if one has to tie one or more children to a chair, and use earplugs to drown out screaming, in order to get it?
Dalynn, you can tie them in the chair if you wish! Like everything else associated with parenting, it works best if you start from Day One. Nap time kind of "evolved" into room time. I set the timer for 30 minutes, and they learned that I didn't want to hear "Has the timer gone off yet?" That COULD result in additional time when the timer DID go off!!! Pre-readers can either look at books or listen to stories on tape. (Keep in mind, my "Mom Time" is silent reading time for my kids, but if something else works better for you, that's OK!) Jackie, set the timer for 10 or 15 minutes, and then build it up. They learn, if not to like it, that it's still part of the daily routine, just like making your bed or brushing your teeth.
