hi! everyone, hope everything/body are doing well. i'm aiming to officially withdraw my 2dds from ps(in ny) and homeschool(in fl) them by the first week of september. my question is how important to get their school record? is it needed to home school? didn't have much luck in finding this info, so really appreciated any info on it. thank you. good health and happiness.
I always have kept as complete records as possible...old report cards...and I had the school copy whatever they had also...and the withdrawl form of course. lol I homeschooled my daughters and I always kept complete records, I was never asked to show anything to anyone. I now help my divorced daughter homeschool and we still keep as complete records as possible...but now the concern is if her Ex would cause problems. So I keep all their workbooks etc so we can prove what has been done.
I never bothered to get sd's official records when we pulled her out of ps. We had her report cards and I figured if I ever needed it that would be enough. Sd is now in college and we have never needed those official records.
thank you junebug and mschickie. nice to know it's not commonly ask to see by HS authority. a bit intimated to ask for one since ps and us have some tension during the pass school year. i do have all their report cards for all the years they went to ps. they're 10 & 8 yrs. old. BTW, beside report cards what else school record consider?
It depends on what state you are in, some states require attentance records to be kept and immunization records.
I didn't get them for my children, either. They aren't required by law, so I never worried about them. I also feel like there is nothing on those that remotely reflects my children, so I put zero value in them.
thanks meghan. i'm soooooooo glad to hear what you all saying here. one more thing get to check off from my list and an inch closer to homeschooling - lol! good health and happiness everyone!
If, in the future, you enroll your child in a school of some kind (private, public, cyber....), you will be asked to fill out a form. Part of that form will include the names of other schools he has attended, and this school will be included on that. You will sign a form that allows that school to send records to his "new" one. As far as hs'ing goes, those records aren't needed.
thanks jackie for your thorough and clear explanation. truly appreciated =) good health and happiness.
