In another thread I briefly mentioned that our province is going to implement a new health curriculum this year to grades 6, 7, and 8 students. I find it troubling to say the very least - as do many parents - representing both Chirstian homes and non-Christian homes.

Please bathe this matter in prayer. Only God knows the end result and only God can control what is about to happen. May the school's teach material that glorifies God instead of promoting material that would only serve to destroy lives (teenage pregnancies (if they don't use the morning after pill which is being promoted) and promiscuity).

I went to a public forum about the garbage that is being implemented in schools this year (along with 500 + other parents who are distraught by this). The panel of speakers (representing the school district and the department of Education) were taken back by the presence of concerned parents but not enought to replace the currciulum with something more appropriate.

As parents, the only options that we have are:
    1) To allow our children to participate in the classes - polluting their minds with information they don't need to know at such a young age. Using tax dollars to sexually abuse children!!!
    2) Sit in on the classes with our children (won't that go over well with their peers -"haha mommy's sitting with you"). Still polluting their minds. Still using tax dollars to sexually abuse children!
    3) Remove our child from the class. We were told this is an option for us. If one child is removed from the class, no big deal, but if 3 or more are removed then they have to hire another teacher to supervise these children and then they have to teach something else.
They suggested that removing children from class would make them targets of bullying. I don't see where we have a choice. If my children are teased, insulted or bullied because I took them out of that class, my complaint will land on the desk of the minister of Education - after all, they are the ones who put me in the position to have to make this choice.

The other thing is that if more parents yank their child from the classes, they will have to teach something else (DUH), so that's the plan of many parents I have spoken to. Pull the child and in the end it will force the government to teach something far more appropriate.

So at this point would you direct your prayers that the Lord would convict parents to remove their child from these classes?

    Thank you,
    Brenda

Brenda, I think you're doing the right thing. The school is trying hard to get you NOT to pull. They don't want to get another teacher, for one thing. Then they are trying to lay a guilt trip on you, that YOUR POOR BABY will be teased, etc. because YOU are an overprotective parent and won't let US PROFESSIONALS that know what's best do our job!!! Well, don't buy it! If you all stick together, you can beat this. The school needs to know that the parents aren't going to just lay down for their bullying! And I'm so glad that it's also non-Christian parents...that REALLY says something!

    Will be praying for you!

I HATE THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT!

Well, now that I have that out of my system

I sat down Tuesday morning and wrote a letter to the people who were at the meeting - representing the school board and the department of Education (8 people in total - including our premier). In my letter, I told them up front that Christian will not be participating in the classes and until they can replace the material with an abstinece based program the other two will not participate when they come to that age either.

I got up and spoke from a personal perspective at the meeting the other night (and fought HARD not to cry). How can I sit back and allow them to sexually abuse my children and those of other families? EVERY parent of EVERY child is responsible for protecting their children and this does not protect them. They might think I'm being over-protective (maybe I am), but I've seen the unfortunate end result of what happens to innocent minds who are sexually exploited. I've seen babies having babies and the end result of it (a two-year old girl dying because of irresponsible parenting). I won't allow it to happen to my boys and I wish others would follow suit and not allow it to happen to their children.

I have ordered my curriculum from Alpha-Omega and will share it with others from the church as an alternative to what our choice is now.

I'm sorry for this...this is really touchy with me and I have a hard time even thinking about it - really makes me sick to my stomach! :( :( :(

Oh, the blessings of homeschooling. I know that I take my ability to stay home with my kids for granted. I've fought where you are, Brenda, and as Jackie said--stick together! You will make an impact with the real bullies (that administration) when you stand up and say "enough is enough". And even if your child is embarrassed, count the cost of allowing sexual perversion to enter into a young mind. There is nothing worth more than your children's souls. They are learning from you right now....will mom stand up for righteousness or will mom compromise? They will draw strength from you, Brenda! Keep at it. You remain in my prayers! :D

I think I'm going to roll over...

I decided to pick up the weekend newspaper today and of course the public forum meeting was on the front page. What I didn't expect to see was my name (or the comments that I made) in it too. I was semi-reluctant to speak at all because by doing so I was opening a closet door (teenage pregnancy) to the public. I didn't dream they would publish that comment. Lord help me get through this one.

Talk about a lesson in humility (or humiliating - not sure which one),

    Brenda, don't feel bad.
Two years ago our paper interviewed me about a clothing giveaway we have each fall.
That reporter took sentences I did say and rearranged them into a statement I did not say. It was eerie and unreal.
At that time we had a brand new pastor. I hadn't been to church in two months because I was upset over a candidate they passed up due to the fact that he yelled when he preached, and he hand wrote his resume.
I had to go meet with the new pastor, and deal with phone calls from people in the congregation that told me not to talk to the paper in the future.
That reporter wouldn't own up to what she did, either.
    People will forget, Brenda.

This is way off topic, Brenda, and I appologize for that, but it might give you some comic relief as long as we are sharing newspaper horror stories.....

We went to go see the "World's Tallest Horse" and my whole family made the paper!......but the only quote was my son saying he was "sure glad we weren't standing behind him when he had to poop!".....yeah, we got some phone calls that day!
