    I've said this before, but.....

along with the BOB books. Make your own "word family" books. Take a regular piece of paper, cut it in haf, then fold each half in half. Glue a bunch of these together to make a little "book". Make a different one for each word family you study, or for each letter. We called one "Phillip's AT Book". We would print out clip art pictures and glue one on each page. HAT, CAT, SAT, RAT, SPLAT!, MAT, etc. Write the word under the picture, and the kids love to "read" them. If you're teaching a letter each week, you could do one each week on your letter.

    When they ask, you teach.
My dd was writing her own name on her own at 2, so 3 is really NOT too young!

Yep, I agree.....When they are ready teach them! My oldest was reading well at 4. My second wasn't even interested until 6. Then it was SLOW going until after he turned 7. Suddenly a lightbulb went off---and I got to see it happen, thanks to homeschooling!!! Within 2 months he went from stumbling over most words and reading VERY slowly, to reading the stats on the sports page, and the stories about the sports figures with dad. We had a friend that was a teacher/counselor. She tested him in May of that year (his lightbulb moment was in January), and he was at the 9th grade level on his reading!

His experience confirmed to me that we shouldn't push our children to read any earlier than they are ready!!! If he had been in school, they would have put him in a remedial class, since he was "behind in reading"! He wouldn't have been able to go at his meteoric pace of learning, when he suddenly wanted to read everything in sight---and he could!

DD was interested when she was 2 and 3, but then decided she didn't want to do that any more. She was 5 when she picked up the interest again, but got frustrated when she could read EVERYTHING! :) I had her read the words she knew and I read the others. She had a lightbulb moment too, that again I got to see! She jumped up and down, when it "clicked" and kept saying, "I can read! I know what this says!" :D  I'm soooo glad I had her home with me and got to see that!!! She didn't go at the fast pace her brother did, but she was soon able to read much more than she had the month before, and just kept going.

I encourage you, as others have said, to follow his lead. He may just keep going and read soon, or he may change his mind and not be interested after all! If that happens, don't push him! He'll read soon enough, and you'll get to be there to see it!!! :D

Jackie stole my comment! LOL..I was going to suggest Bob books. They are great! My dd started to read at 3. My ds started around then also..but he kinda taught himself. lol. I say go with the flow. If he gets too frustarted then lay off bit and celebrate every success.

I too think if the kid asks - let him.
I prefer web sites and the phonetic method, so it will be starfall.com for English and la-am.com for Hebrew

amird, My 13yo is interested in taking Hebrew, so I looked at the site you mentioned. But you already have to KNOW Hebrew to navigate that site! Do you know of any beginner Hebrew sites, or good ways to learn it if you don't know it at all?

We think he's pretty cute too! I think we'll keep him. Until Sasha takes him away from us!! He will definitely know how to read by then!
