My kids received a subscription to Scholastic they love it! I was told that my nephews would not like to get magazines, they would only like legos. : ( I do not like those bratty little kids! I am not going to get them legos, just because of the snide answer. I think I might get them a book on manners and character training. ; )
Hey, there's a free LEGO club you can sign them up for! They get a magazine every two months (read: giant LEGO ad), but Phillip really enjoys getting his. Basically, they keep him informed with the "latest" in LEGOs. And did I mention it is FREE?
yea and you can also get American Girl CATALAUGUES free too if you sign up, my dughters like that one, we get the LEGO one too. I got the BAMBI colectable lunch box for FREE!! with my disney movie reward points, it came in the other day its really cute, with raised pictures on both sides. SPEAKING OF AMERICAN GIRL BOOKS, I GOT ONE FOR SAMMIE THAT SHE ALREADY HAS ITS CALLED MEET REBECCA, IS THERE ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO TRADE AMERICAN GIRL BOOKS FOR ONE WE DON'T HAVE?
It's certainly worth planning in advance. With all the gifts that are 'expected', it can get rather expensive at Christmas.
People who know my family also know NOT to expect gifts. We give if we are able to give. We also do not give to people who do not appreciate the gift. My gift list has shrunk over the years for many reasons. lol
Emma's fan: Yes, well, I know what you mean. But they do appreciate the thought, I hope, anyway. Also, for us it's also the Christmas card list that is really long. Even if we try to cut down the list, it's very hard to do so. You know, 'What will they think if we don't send one this year?"
something else free! ok this was for myself but you have until Jan. 1st to redeam it...... today only!! for 100 coke points you can get a subscribption to Everyday FOOD (12 issues for free) I happened to have exactly 100 pts.
Taste of homes has if you buy one you can get the other free to some. 1 year. No its never to early in my books to talk Christmas I love it. Even though its a very busy time for us with Christmas and birthdays but we love it. Amy, we used to have all those books let me check with girls to see if we still have them.
It is never too early to start thinking about Christmas!!! I start buying presents at the begining of Sept. That way it is more pread out, instead of spending so much money in one month
If you know someone who likes Family Fun magazine you can get a subscription right now for $5. The deal is only good for the rest of today though.
I am planning to make some coin purses and boxy bags for my sisters, sis in laws, and friends this yr. maybe my mom too. In the past I do not buy gifts for my sisters are inlaws since I am always on a budget and have no extra funds. They know not to expect something for me, but I do get my niece and nephews something each year. I have decided that I wanted to do a little something for my family and I think spending less than 5 dollars a piece on a boxy bag for their makeup or what ever would be a good thing... I have no idea what to get my girls, Janelle is really into sewing right now and would love a table or such in her room... so I am still working that out... Kalyn is 10... and in that in between stage where she wants to grow up, but still want toys so we will see. I only spend what I have saved up to spend.. so this Christmas may be very lean!
This is what gets me the most. I used to LOVE Christmas so much. Because I do like giving. Some of the people who are on the list, they were so rude and unkind when the gifts we gave ( the best for our budget) were not up to their standards. It makes me dread it each year. I love to buy for some people, the ones who are nice and really enjoy what ever I get them, because it is the thought that counts really. I do not want to give money my hubby worked 80 hours a week to earn to somebody who doesn't appreciate it. But if we didn't get them gifts it would cause a huge uproar in the family.
This is my case exactly! I can't afford to buy gifts that are good enough for some of my family members. It makes buying for them VERY stressful.
sixcloar: Yes, well my two cents' would be that if it's a gift they should be grateful with what is given... At Christmas it's the thought that counts, anyway.
sixcloar: Well, no; you a right. But if there isn't real gratitude there, either, all the money in the world can't create gratitude. (But I'm sure they are grateful really, to some extent.)
Those who I do not give gifts to do not even appreciate the thought. This is one of the reasons I stopped giving gifts to them. :? There are so many better causes I can help. However, I try to send them a card. But if I am not able to send a card, I don't worry what they will think. If they can't understand that my checkbook doesn't revolve around their Christmas gift or card, then they have a bigger problem than me. Seriously, I will give them a call if I do not send a card. I still want them to know that I love them and am thinking about them during Christmas.
Emma's fan: What we do as well, is, with various ppl, as well as send them a Christmas card, enclose a brief letter with the card. Like this, they really know that we are thinking of them, and value the contact with them, although it doesn't involve a lot of expense.
I am so glad that there are others who have to deal with this stuff too! Not really glad, but I am not alone! I kind of wondered if I am just a jerk and expect to much out of people. I agree that it doesn't matter how much money I spent it wouldn't be just right, and therefore I would get attitude from them. Last year I gave the two rotten boys harmonicas and kazoo's for Christmas. LOL Their mom glared at me. I loved it. Because things like that do not bother me. I just send the kids outside and they can have a grand time making as much racket as they see fit.
