    Hello all,
I hope you had a wonderful christmas, we sure did in our house. It was the first one that I actually enjoyed for 5 years. The last 5 years the girls were too hard to take care of and christmas just added to the stress of daily life.
Anyway, the girls are totally into puzzles right now and so they got a few for christmas. I was wondering though.... is it unusual for a 2 year and 8 month old to do a 63 piece puzzle all by herself? She can do a 50 piece no problem, and 48 piece no problem. Our 4 yo likes puzzles too, so we bought her a 100 piece puzzle, just to see. The 4 yo gave up pretty quickly, but the 2.8 yo stuck with it and with a little bit of help from me finished it on her own!
 Both the twins have been able to count to 10 since they were two and now they can count to 20. I would just like to know, is this unusual?
    Thanks ,
    Katrina.

My 9 year old used to work puzzles that were for 5-7 yr olds when she was 2. She would work them upside down so that I could see the picture :)

What's even more interesting is although she has a high reasoning IQ, she has a processing deficit...meaning it takes her longer to do other things because her processing speed is substantially slower than her IQ (if that makes sense). She's gifted in lots of areas despite her other learning struggles....solving puzzles upside down was an indicator of that giftedness I guess....lol. Some kids are just better at things like that I think.

Thanks :) I'm not really thinking that she is "gifted," I'm just astounded that she can do such a thing, that's all. It's really a little scary to watch :). She has always been a problem solver and I think that puzzles have obviously tapped into this ability. I know that all kids do some amazing things sometimes. I will never forget my 4yo, one day when we were out prior to her speaking. We were at a grocery store and I asked the clerk for the soy sauce. My then 18 mnth(?) old promptly went to the shelf and retrieved the exact right brand of soy sauce. My jaw dropped then too :) They are really amazing little things sometimes, one of the many reasons why I want to hs, I don't want to miss any of those moments :).

Our ds we adopted at age 2, and the day he came home, we got him an ordinary wooden puzzle of about 7 or 8 pieces, which he put together in a heartbeat. By the time he was about 3 he was doing the 63-piece round puzzles. When he was 3 1/2 he could do 100-piece ones but he never actually finished one of those, because he has adhd and got bored before he finished. He has average intelligence, which we know because I had him tested at two different times during childhood.

His ds at 4 is showing none of his father's talent for puzzles, although he makes typical 4yo structures with Duplos. Before he could talk in real words, he could sign more than 30 signs, and when he was two he could count objects to ten and identify about five letters consistently. Then they moved out of our house and in with the inlaws, and quit doing signs and colors/numbers/letters with him and now he's 4 and we're having to teach him all over again.

DGD is reading CVC words by just playing and being read to by her mother (dd). She'll be 3 on the 4th.

I think it just means they like logical things, not everyone is into puzzles, my little girl would take out all the cereal boxex and put them in biggest to smallest back into the cabinet and other quizical things when she was that young

I think it's great they have such an interest in puzzles, but I don't think it's unusual. I think it's just what's caught their fancy and what they are interested in right now. For instance for my son his thing is sports he learned how to ride when he was 3, he can hit a ball that's pitched to him and bounce a basketball and dribble it. He's 4 now but it's just what he really likes.
