Received this today in the weekly newsletter from the Virginia Home Educators Association. Since my hubby is a soldier and Memorial Day is coming up...thought I'd share it. Obviously applies to other military services as well (not just the good ole Army). It Is The Soldier It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion. It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer Who has given us freedom to protest. It is the Soldier, not the lawyer Who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the Soldier, not the politician Who has given us the right to vote. It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag. - By Charles M. Province
My husband said one of his Battalion Commanders used to read it at every Basic Training Graduation (they were both training new soldiers at the time).
I love that!!!! I have heard it before but never tire of it. It is sooo true! I know I am grateful to those who choose a life dedicated to this country. Everytime I enjoy a freedom I have a soldier to thank!
