I have figured it out...I've got a plan to make myself feel better. We're going to throw in some fun lapbooky type unit studies every few weeks. I have been feeling down because it takes us so long to get through a day and thought that it'd be a good "break" for them--while still having to do work--and make me actually feel like we're accomplishing something! :)

I hope your plan works. I loved doing lapbooks with the girls when we first started homeschooling.

We tried lapbooks, Garrett wasn't a fan, but my littles would be all over your idea!

    Sounds fun to me :)

How do you make lapbooks anyway? Anyone know of a good tutorial or something? I'm tempted to just use stiff folders and some art supplies but I want them to be functional and (kinda) durable for the kiddies to enjoy over and over again.

We plan on doing a lot of unit studies/lapbooking as well. Do you know about this site? It's awesome for lapbooking already planned out

And this site is great if you want to design your own lapbook, lots of blank templates

lap books are so much fun! they can be as difficult ad as easy as you want, once you get it down you can even have your kids come up with thier own topic and everything! What kind of additions they want to put in them.. right now I have a pile of science ones we used this year I will post them on my blog later this week if someone reminds me. Right now I am looking around waiting for my kids to show up for go to LAST DAY OF DRAMA! yeaaaaaaaaaaaah! hahaha hehehe
    FUN!

gaaaaaaaa!!!!!! I'm going to pull my hair out! The ONLY hard thing in this lapbook is just copying vocabulary words! we did 5 yesterday and 9 today...well, today it took them 3 hours....YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT 3 HOURS!!!! Ug! It's so frustrating. I know that it won't take them just a couple of minutes...but 15 should be appropriate! I'm just so aggravated because the entire point of doing the lapbook stuff for 2 weeks was to finish quickly, do something fun and light and still feel a feeling of accomplishment!
I'm about to just have them copy the word alone and NOT the definition but I'm sure there'll be complaining about that as well. Okay, just wanted to blow off some steam and vent for a moment.

I know that the idea in my head of these smiling happy kids that are anxiously racing to the table or couch to do their school work is JUST a daydream of mine, but I was hoping we'd get close to that today!

lapbooks are fun. Autumn maybe you need to say do this and when you are done we can do this. Sometimes that works. Or make them work for something.
It will work out, just the summer blues.

also dont try to do the whole lapbook in a day, take a week or two on them .. let them do some research on the subjects too that will make it more fun google it for them and let htme look at the different things for that topic. if you can print things to go with it do that as well! pictures and stuff like that>
