I had a friend in high school who was a JW. From what I remember (and it WAS long ago!) women are not permitted to teach men. That means women cannot lead a Bible study in which men attend, or cannot speak from the pulpit when men are present. They can get around this, however, by having two women on stage having a conversation. One woman is teaching the other. The others in the audience, both men and women, are not being taught. They're just listening in.

Is that kinda like smoking but not inhaling. lol. This is not a slam on the JW's, we all do things to "get around" rules we don't like. :)

My step mom has actually delivered a message at her KH. She said they just stand up and share what they believe they are given. Sometimes they are called upon to be prepared, and really are ready instant in season and out of season like our Bibles say to be!
I know in many Christian churches today a woman is encouraged to pray only with women because of the propriaty thing. ALso in these days it is safer and no one can claim that someone did something they did not. ( If you know what I mean). Most pastors today do not allow a woman to be counseled even by a man with out his wife or another woman present.
OUr recovery pastor really emphasises Women study with women and men with men.
I am not sure what the Bible actually says about this because I know there are many women who lead men, not just Deborah either!
I have written a study called Women of Destiny ( didnt know at the time there was a name similar out there) but we studied the reason God placed women where they were for such a time as this...
Okay , off subject a bit now I think once I get started ...... Be blessed!

Then maybe things have changed since my high school days. Or maybe it's different from KH to KH....?

Maybe we should watch how we discuss this issue because there are indeed at least 2 JW's that are members of this board. My buddy, Kathe, left because of things that got said to her.

Kathe went door to door one day last year and it was -26 degrees up there. She's more devout than anyone I know, but she believes differently than I do. Her devoutness is one of the things I always liked best about her.

yep, I know things change occasionally though, one reason the awake is important, and I know that these people are just people wanting to do what they believe God wants them to do. Thats why I pray for Him to open thier eyes to Jesus.
It is so easy for people to put a sterotype on people but when it comes down to it, we are all like the Israelites back in Judges and trying to do what we think is right in our own eyes, untill the Lord sees us seeking Him with all our heart, soul mind and strength! Then He opens them all to His glory! All it takes is a seeking heart, anyone can come to know Him as thier savior and best friend and everything!

When I was living at home, there were some JW's that came by my parents house. We had at the time, a 90-100 lb Shepherd that DID NOT like strangers. Our property was fenced with a gate that was closed. However, they decided to come through, which wasn't the biggest deal. The problem was, when the dog started barking, they shoved their 2-3 year old through the gate in front of them, towards the dog. Luckly, the dog was smart enough to know it was a child.
BUT, not all JW's are that way either.

Please understand that the above story was not meant to offend anyone. I was raised around the JW's, and although I don't agree with them, I do understand them. They really believe that we are lost. They show more love to those who they believe are lost then most "christians" I think that in that way,, we could all learn from them!66

I totally agree. I have never met a JW that was not very friendly, smiled, very professional and understanding. I do think they totally think they are doing the right thing. Too bad, more Christians did go out in visitations. What good does the gift of salvation anyway, if we don't share it?

Seems to me that ANYONE who would put their child inside a gate with a large dog that is showing agression has real problems! That has NOTHING to do with religion, but common sense! I am also guessing that 99% of JW's would have more sense than that, too!

I completely passed by the story! LOL. Yea, I think that a whole group of people cannot be responsible for the actions of one misguided family. We all have our zealots and crazies and those who make poor decisions.

I agree that we all make bad decisions. Please understand that the story was not a put down to JW's. I was just reminded of it by the thread.

OH, I went back and read this. I got a visual in my head it make me chuckle. Mostly, because I can't believe anyone would do this. That is a funny story. Don't worry no one would think you were putting on JW's by this story. Clearly, they were special people. lol

No, I didn't take it as a put-down on JW's, but just as a story. Sorry if it seemed I did! We have a German Shepherd, and she while she's perfectly safe, she appears aggresive at times. People who don't know her have no idea how passive she really is. I guess my point is that, if you don't know a particular dog, it's wiser not to take the chance, especially where children are concerned.

Some time ago a little, white haired lady came by with Watchtowers to give out. After I answered the door I tried to take the books and get her to leave, because my dog is a nut and he wanted to get to her. Long story short- he tried to jump through the window at her, busting out our front window.

I called her Kingdom Hall and asked why this tiny lady was allowed to go door to door alone. I told them my aunt is a JW, so I know there are elders who could go with her. She was tiny and elderly! She could have been hurt by the many large dogs on our street.

They didn't even take up for her. In fact they said they had no part in her going door to door. They said she chooses to do that herself. I asked if that was because she was trying to spread a message she believed in, and shouldn't they support her? They were very dismissive of her. I guess they thought I was going to ask to have my window paid for. My concern was for this tiny, frail lady. Their tone was disappointing to me.

    Hi

Hi everyone, as one of JW's I found this thread very interesting. I am pretty suprised at all the misguided information people have about us. First and foremost we are followers of Christ. Following his words at Matt 28:19 we go out and witness to others. Someone mentioned "the lighthouse" I have been a JW for over 30 years and have never even heard of this. We base our beliefs only on the bible. We hold nothing in higher regard than God's word. Yes I know we come to your homes uninvited to share scriptures, and many times we get an unfavorable response, but we never take it personal.:) We have crazy lives too, the kids, barking dogs, and a million things to do. We are not required to turn in any set number of hours so an "elder" will be pleased. We all do what we do to please God and no one else. Hope this helps clear some things up. Have a great day!

    What about the Watchtower?

Sorry for any misunderstandings about your beliefs.
